Well I guess two bits of news about James Franco just aren’t enough this week. Today we have the trailer for another Franco picture (this one coming sooner than Palo Alto and something a little more light-hearted from the sound of it), the off-beat and quirky looking indie Maladies. It looks to be quite a lot of quirky fun but not in that I’m trying too hard to be different hipster vibe. No, this looks like a good time and possibly what James Franco’s life is really like. Anyway, because that told you nothing about the film, enjoy this trailer for Maladies…
Maladies is written and directed by Carter (yes, he goes by one name). It’s a story about talented and successful actor retires at a young age due to a perceived mental illness. Now living in a small town with his deranged sister and his best friend, we watch as their Maladies intertwine. This has been a long time coming as this was screened, as a “work in progress” at the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive in 2012 and at SXSW last March. Aside from Franco it stars David Strathairn, Catherine Keener and Alan Cumming and Tribeca Films plans to steam this on iTunes & VOD March 25th. It will also get a limited theatrical run starting on March 21st 2014.
