In the success of most post-apocalyptic films like Mad Max, The Road, The Book of Eli and AMC’s The Walking Dead, Stake Land (no, not Skateland) looks to fit in nicely with its own bleak outlook on the future..this time with Vampires. Not as stylized as Day Breakers per se (and hopefully much better too), but for those of you tired of the overly glamorized Vampire films, this paints a gritty picture that I find oddly captivating. Have a look…
A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation’s abandoned towns and cities, and it’s up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continent’s New Eden.
Stake Land is co-written and directed by Jim Mickle (Mulberry Street) and tells the tale of Martin, a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster following a vampire epidemic. It’s being billed as a “road movie with teeth” and looks to impress with a Zombieland level of purpose combined with an atmosphere of say, Near Dark. Oh well, I could be waaay off an any of the films neamed in this post but I’m intrigued none the less.
For those of you interested in a film that literally goes for the throat, Stake Land is set for limited release this week on Friday April 22nd and will hit theaters in the UK on June 17th this Summer. What do you think?? Look like a good time or a wasted road trip??
