One of our very favorite actors of all time is Sylvester Stallone. Yes, you read that right. The man has seen it all and done it all. He’s risen, fallen and risen again and continues to show us what happens if you just keep punching. True, not everything he’s done will be remembered for all time (and some titles are probably better forgotten) but he’s shown us for six decades that he cannot be counted out.
So here we are with the next installment of the ‘Expendables‘ series and that’s worth a pause to celebrate. Why? Well, a couple reasons. First is that few thought we’d ever seen another as things kinds of sputtered out in the 2014 outing. In the gang’s third at bat, the series tried for a lighter, bloodless and more comical PG-13 fare (to say it was “fair” is generous). But it looked as if we might be saying goodbye to our older heroes and letting a younger class carry on.
Next, almost 10 years later here we are getting a new film and if there’s one thing that Stallone does well is deliver a solid and rousing fourth film in the series – take a look at Rocky IV and 2008’s Rambo. Neither pulled any punches telling their crowd-pleasing stories, and they are standouts in their respective sagas. It’s in that light that make us think things bode well for this effort. And I’m sure it will right the ship that got more than a little wonky and bloated in the last two trips around the horn. As ever, we’re rooting for you, Sly!
