For those of you looking for gritty old-school NYC based crime dramas then look no further. Michaël R. Roskam directs Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini in The Drop and this story (formerly titled Animal Rescue) is centered on a former criminal who tries to go the straight and narrow. However he happens to work at the same bar that funnels funnels cash to local gangsters through “money drops” in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Enjoy the first trailer below…
A crime-drama centered around a former criminal trying to straighten out his life as the bartender, a lost pit bull, a wannabe scam artist, and a killing.
As this is officially Gandolfini’s final film we are left to bask in the bittersweet after glow that was his accomplished career…and this doesn’t look like a bad one to go out on either. Plus if you’re going to focus on East coast mafioso types and the seedy underworld in which they thrive, who else would you cast in such a role, albeit a type-cast one? The film is written by Dennis Lehane and is based on his short story of the same name. It stars Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini and Noomi Rapace and Fox Searchlight has slated The Drop for a release late Summer on September 19th, 2014.
