DC has been on a roll for a while and their time in the sun is now. How awesome does this grand cinematic adventure look?? We get multiple Batmans, multiple Flashes, time travel, and Michael Shannon’s Zod?! What’s not to love?
However, it’s not just tons of fan service. This film looks to contain incredible reverence for what the Tim Burton classic has done for comic adaptations and cinema in general. While Michael Keaton is clearly the hook – the nods to the ‘89 film make the 9-year old me smile – this story is something that will stand beyond getting our old heroes back on the big screen. And to be honest, The Flash has been growing on us since the Snydervese made him such an integral character to the JL. We’re all in for this.
This is also the product of those who are not on screen, namely Andy Muschietti directing, Benjamin Wallfisch writing the score and all of this under the fresh eyes of James Gunn coming into run the studio. Wow, June can’t get here fast enough.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
Warner Bros. Pictures presents this film, directed by Andy Muschietti, which will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023.
