The 84th Annual Academy Award Winners (Plus Tribute To The Snubbed Films of 2011)
The 84th Annual Academy Awards came to a close at the Kodak Theater (we’ll move past the fact they’re filing for Chapter 11) with some big wins from some expected but very deserving films and film makers. Hugo and The Artist went toe to toe and both walked away with 5 golden statues. The supporting/leading actor categories were really a tough call as the fields were all populated with masterful performances and talented individuals. On Saturday night the entire film world turned its eyes towards the Orange BAFTAs (the British Academy Film Awards) to see how this year’s most buzzed about films would fare across the pond. The Golden Globes are behind us, the Academy Awards just a few weeks a head of us but the one awards event filling the gap between self-congratulatory (Globes) and career defining (Oscars) are the Orange BAFTAs. Martin Scorsese To Be Honored with BAFTA Fellowship
We are very close to award season and this year all the ceremonies will be celebrating the best of what 2011 had to offer. As is always the case, certain award shows will honor something not just from the past year but call attention to a significant body of work. The artist/filmmaker that will be honored at this year’s Orange BAFTA awards is legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. With this Academy Fellowship honor, he will join the join a select number of outstanding film personalities and can be rightfully recognized as one of the most elite in the business. The 64th Annual BAFTA’s – Winners Announced
The 64th Annual BAFTA’s were this past Sunday and anyone not living in the UK (or those who don’t have an insane cable with a full BBC lineup) missed out on the action. Well it was no surprise that The King’s Speech was one of the night’s big winners.
