Sweet Trailer…Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’

Can you believe that this year we’ll get to see Wes Anderson’s 10th film? Better yet, can you imagine a world without Wes Anderson? It’s tough to do even if some people *cough, Honest Trailers, cough* think his movies are all the same. True, he has his style, and that’s what makes him, for close to three decades, one of the finest auteurs working today. I for one thought there would be nowhere to go after The Grand Budapest Hotel to say nothing of the stunning attention to detail in Isle of Dogs. Yet here we are. So please enjoy this first look at The French Dispatch as well as…

    Off the Shelf…’The Jungle Book’

Everybody loves The Jungle Book, or, at least, a great deal of people claim to love the 1967 film. Truth is, whether or not you have nostalgic leanings towards it, it’s not that great a picture. Now, faults aside, there are some redeeming and rather endearing qualities. But on the whole, it’s not one of the studio’s best efforts. Further, just because something is old, it doesn’t exactly make it good – take that hilarious “Honest Trailer” for instance which really sends up the film. So now that Disney is on this live-action kick, Jon Favreau has taken the helm of this 2016 adaptation. His undying love for the original aside, this…

    G-S-T Review…Hyde Park On Hudson

Hyde Park on Hudson recounts the royal visit of King George VI (who you may remember from Colin Firth’s portrayal in The Kings Speech, depicted here by actor Samuel West), and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) to Hyde Park from the perspective of Daisy Suckley (Laura Linney), who at this time has recently become FDR’s (Bill Murry) mistress. Unbeknownst to Daisy, she’s not the only secret Roosevelt is keeping. The screenplay is based on actual events discussed in diary entries and letters that belonged to Daisy. The correspondence was found after her death, and the affair she had kept a secret for most of her life was finally revealed. The royal visit begins with…

Sweet Trailer…'A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III'

Yes, I know this trailer is a few days old. Still, better late than never I’m told, and besides, any new Charlie Sheen projects are probably worth covering just for pure shock value. A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, frankly, looks like it’ll either end up being sheer wacky genius or a glorious, stylized mess, without much room for flexibility; I’m not going to lie, the first trailer gives me high hopes: Were anyone other than Charlie Sheen cast in the lead role, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III would just look like a quirky, precious cribbing of everything Wes Anderson has ever done…

    G-S-T Review…Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson films aren’t for everyone as he’s definitley an acquired taste. However, those that get his films, kind of like David Cronenberg (only way more accessible), really dig his work. Regardless of whether you are a fan of Bottle Rocket, Rushmore or The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Anderson, with help from co-writer Roman Coppola, crafts an adorable and endearing film about young lovers who cast off the rules and opinions of others. This story is almost an on-screen representation of  just who Anderson is. As a film maker, he does what he wants, how he wants it and most times the stories are better for it. So too are the young characters who are ultimately the…
