Sometimes we humble film fans never really know what goes into putting a film we love on the big screen. No I’m not talking about the studio/director making the movie, I’m talking about the thankless people working behind the scenes in a theater so we can enjoy uninterrupted cinema. With all the advancements and paradigm shifts in film, IMAX has moved from its documentary pics to being utilized in big budget blockbusters and there’s no going back now. The following video gives us an idea of how the 70mm IMAX projection system works…and as you’ll see in the video, 70mm is BIG! For you videophiles, this may be old news but…

Awesome WETA 'Prometheus' Intro VFX Breakdown
If you’ve seen Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, whether or not you’re on board with the ambiguous/not entirely satisfying (or thought out) plot, you no doubt have marveled at how astoundingly beautiful his return to sci-fi looked. Well, Academy Award-winning visual effects house WETA Digital crafted the scene using a combination of cutting-edge tech and practical techniques. This video below shows they pulled off the effects. It’s short but worth a look. Enjoy!! In the film’s opening sequence, a lone humanoid figure crosses a cliff top, disrobes and drinks from a small container. Within moments, his body begins to break apart with horrifying force. The dissolving Engineer pitches forward into a waterfall, his genetic material seeding what…

Ohhh, Look…Bill Murray Gives Comical Tour of 'Moonrise Kingdom' Set
Wes Anderson’s newest film Moonrise Kingdom premiered in France last week and has been making waves at the Cannes Film Festival. Those of you anxious to see it (or anything from Wes Anderson) who didn’t make the Fest don’t have to wait long until it hits stateside. Anderson’s cute and endearing coming-of-age film is scheduled to start its lmited release this Friday. To help get you excited for Moonrise Kingdom comes this decidedly quirky (and tipsy) walkthrough of the film with Bill Murray. He comes off equally lackadaisical and confused by the material but Murray gives a fun and quirky account of his time on set. Have a look and enjoy… Leave it to Murray…

Ohhh, Look…Behind the Scenes Look At ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ with Director Marc Webb
Following the awesome 4 minute trailer of The Amazing Spider-Man which hit the web yesterday (pun intended!) comes this equally impressive Behind the Scenes featurette. That “super preview” showed us how awesome Peter Parker/Spider-Man will be this July but the video shows us that Marc Webb isn’t too shabby himself. Enjoy this little glimpse into the Spider-Man universe led by Mr. Webb… Man, this film just continues to impress as we get closer to the release date. The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans as well as a terrific supporting cast. Sony/Columbia has The Amazing Spider-Man set to swing into theaters (in 3D!) this Summer on July 3rd, 2012. What say you web-slingers? Ready to give…

Ohhh, Look…'Sound of My Voice' Featurette
If you’ve seen the first 12 minutes of Zal Batmanglij‘s Sound of My Voice then you should already be on board for the latest creepy but compelling story from Brit Marling. She got a lot of attention (mixed but still pretty positive) after writing and starring in the Mike Cahill directed Another Earth. Below is a featurette which give us a little more info on what to expect in this film. Those of you wanting to stay in the dark about this film might want to skip it, but if you, like us, were mesmerized by those 12 minutes you probably have stopped reading and are already playing the video… For those of you unfamiliar with the film…

Ohhh, Look…007 'Skyfall' Photos, Production Blog & More – UPDATED
The latest James Bond film Skyfall is slated to hit theaters this Fall on November 9th, 2012. As we approach its release we’ve been given lots of tidbits, in the form of candid shots, but nothing substantial. While they can be neat to look at and pique our interests (like the first one of Javier Bardem) we’re easily a month or two from the first teaser trailer. That said, this post will serve as a catch all for the 007 stuff that’s been released and provide just a little commentary/info about Skyfall (as well as take a break from all the Avengers coverage). James Bond film fans have had to patiently wait…

Ohhh Look…'Snow White & The Huntsman' Featurettes/New Footage
Next week we’ll be treated to the first full trailer for the upcoming film Snow White & The Huntsman. While we wait for that to drop, feast your eyes on the following four featurettes (sorry all of them have unskippable ads). These videos have lead ins from the stars of the film are cover all things from set design to costumes to the characters of this dark and gritty take on the famous story. One thing I wish they might have touched on is the musical score. Was what we heard in the teaser really James Newton Howard’s score or was the TRON/Inception inspired track just a placeholder? We’ll find out soon enough but…

Ohhh, Look…Sound and Scoring Featurette for 'John Carter'
Andrew Stanton’s first foray into live action filmmaking hit theaters hard this weekend (but not enough to take the top spot at the box office). While the visuals transported us to an otherworldly epic so too did the sound and music of John Carter. In this featurette, Oscar-winning film composer Michael Giacchino and Supervising Sound Editor Jonathan Null of Skywalker Sound briefly discuss their process and give us a glimpse into the scoring and sound design for John Carter. Have a look and thanks /Film for the heads up. Enjoy! Sound and music are always underrated so it’s neat to see it highlighted or appreciated even in a video as short as this. How many…

Ohhh, Look…'Tron: Legacy' and 'Black Swan' VFX Featurettes
2010 was a big year for Visual Effects. Films like Inception have had effects work (both practical and CG) seamlessly woven into the film which created just jaw dropping and memorable sequences.
