When a composer and a filmmaker find a groove, the results are a seemingly never-ending well of material. Suffice to say, the best partnerships are far more than just one note. Pun intended! Filmmakers whose work spans multiple genres – war, action, fantasy, crime, all of the above – need a sound that suits the story. There are several long-standing director/composer partnerships out there and one of the more recent noteworthy pairings is the one-two punch of Guy Ritchie & Chris Benstead. We’ll be completely honest here: one of our very favorite (if not all time favorite) director is Guy Ritchie. A legend now, he blew people away with his…

Sweet Trailer…Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Covenant’
If there’s one director we will constantly stand behind, it’s Guy Ritchie. He won us over long ago with his cockney criminal capers and since then has capably handled the worlds of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Norman Felton/Sam Rolfe and even Disney, but now he’s trying something completely different. Take a look at his latest filmic venture where Guy grabs another Hollywood star (following RDJ and Will Smith and Matthew McConaughey) and puts them through the lens de Ritchie…and this time around he trades his trademark quips and quotes for bullets and booms. All things said, this looks stellar and what’s also great is that this will be here in…

Interview…Daniel Pemberton on Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’
UK-based composer Daniel Pemberton has such a distinctive voice, er sound, and his compositions never fail to leave us awestruck. The work he creates is as impacting as it is innovative. If that wasn’t enough, this multi-Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA Award-nominated musician has worked hand in hand with Ridley Scott, Darren Aronofsky, Guy Ritchie and other legendary directors. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is lauded as a game-changer in the action genre and really put him on the map, Steve Jobs is a masterful progression of digital bits and beeps that segues beautifully into lush symphonic splendor, the Black Mirror episode, U.S.S. Callister, is a darkly memorable alt.…

G-S-T Review…Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows
Editor’s Note: Go,See,Talk presents this review of Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows as the debut entry from our guest contributing writer Bill Graham. He’s going to be making some more appearances on G-S-T in the next few weeks so have a look at what he had to say about the sequel to Guy Ritchie’s 2009 blockbuster and offer your thoughts below. As a movie-goer, I value my time. So often the inflated budgets of the modern blockbuster results in an obese runtime that attempts to show off as much of that cost as it can. At times it feels like the length of the film is, for better or worse, directly related…

Sweet Trailer…'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'
On Sunday Yahoo has released the first two official posters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and now we get a full on trailer! This sequel features the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the titular deducing detective and Jude Law as John Watson who really were superb in their respective roles (despite Downey’s spotty accent). But new to this series are the additions of Jared Harris as Professor Moriaty and Noomi Rapace as Sim. Well, enough about that, let’s get to the trailer… Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Rocknrolla) is back directing the sequel to the 2009 hit about quick witted super sleuth Sherlock Holmes. For those of you who…

Off the Shelf…’RocknRolla’
Our friend Ruth at FlixChatter recently did a post about the opening sequence to Rocknrolla and after reading it, I thought “man I want to watch that again!”. Also, I just love that intro song by Black Strobe…to me, that whole bit just works. I really enjoyed RocknRolla in the theater and it is such a treat on DVD/Blu-Ray. Sure it’s not quite Snatch part II that fans were expecting, but I think it turned out well. All I can say about this film is that “Guy is back!!”…and now that Madonna is gone, I think we’ll be getting more quality Ritchie films in the near future. RocknRolla was one very…

Off the Shelf…'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels'
Without Guy Ritchie, I don’t think American audiences would be aware of British gangster films and their seedy criminal underground that is almost a new-aged noir. One of the most fun, excitingly humorous and well written cult-classics in the last 10 years, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels is an absolute favorite of mine and has been for a long time. If you love guns, humor, dry wit and great characters then look no further than this gem from Guy Ritchie.
