Director Jim Hosking, and co-writer David Wike craft a surreal experience in the form of An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn. From the start, it’s an odd movie, and one that feels like you’re watching alien lifeforms try to emulate humans. But it is hilarious! It’s an exercise in stretching a joke, and that’s what Hosking does so well. He also takes what’s real and morphs it just enough to turn actors, every one of them, into cartoons. For instance, Emile Hirsch‘s delivery always ends in overlong stares, or strained, exaggerated smiles. And in a few sequences, he believes that by donning a blond pixie-cut wig (meant for a girl) and…

Off the Shelf…’Muppets Most Wanted’
There are few things human beings simply cannot live without – food, water, shelter and, every few years or so, a Muppet movie. While we were weren’t entirely fond of the gang’s last outing, this sequel is the sure-fire jolt to the funny bone fans have been patiently waiting for. More credit where it’s due, director James Bobin worked out all the kinks and seems to know where to take things from here on in. To quote a certain frog, Yaaay!!! The Muppets are a very self-aware bunch which, among a laundry list of criteria, is part of their charm. As such, the film starts right on the heels…

G-S-T Review…Men In Black 3
There’s an old saying that when you’re at rock bottom you can only go up. That certainly describes the MIB series after the hugely disappointing sequel from 2002. Even after a decade, that film still leaves a bitter taste. However, at G-S-T we always root for a redeeming sequel. Did we get one? Well almost, but again, anything would fare better than MIB 2. What’s most enjoyable is that this film, and series really, is so familiar that it’s almost like no time has passed since we saw Agents J and K save the Earth for the first time way back in 1997. Here come the Men In Black *clap clap* and Agents J and…
