Film fans have seen various visions of dystopia and its many hypothesized forms for decades. From Brazil to Equilibrium, from Logan’s Run to The Running Man, there’s no shortage of dismal looking futures. Yet as bleak as those titles paint their depicted worlds, The Hunger Games lets us know that hope and heart are still part of the human condition. But very much like our own society the aftermath still yields the ‘haves‘ and ‘have nots‘. In The Hunger Games the socioeconomic divides between The Capitol and The Districts are likened to the serf system of the medieval times. Sweet TV Spot…'The Hunger Games'
This awesome 60 second TV spot for The Hunger Games has debuted and man does it get the job done. I’m oddly more excited for this than The Avengers. Wow, talk about a way to end the week…until Prometheus hits tomorrow that is. Anyway, this trailer gives us the most footage of that lavishly cold world we’ve seen yet. No more words…just watch (fyi, headphones are highly encouraged). So far The Hunger Games is getting GREAT word of mouth buzz and the early reviews are sporting pretty high praise. Sweet (2nd) Trailer…'The Hunger Games'
Today we’re treated to the second trailer for the adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ best selling novel (the first in a series of 4 planned films from her 3 books). While the teaser didn’t do much but confuse, the first official trailer was infinitely more satisfying. From Yahoo, we have a shorter but deeper look into this bizarrely exquisite futuristic tale in which “a nationally televised event in which ‘Tributes’ must fight with one another until one survivor remains“. Kind of looks like a mix of The Running Man, Logan’s Run and Harry Potter for the young adult set…but maybe that’s just me since I’ve never read the books. Anyway, have a look.
