G-S-T Review…Now You See Me
Louis Leterrier. That name means different things to different people. But when telling a tale that’s a quasi-magical, quasi-heist film, he seems the perfect fit for this type of story. None of his films are known to contain very much substance, yet, on a cursory level, they are comprised of mostly breezy entertainment with a strong, and slightly fun visual sense. Smoke, mirrors, and misdirection are the tools of a magician and Leterrier works in the same medium, one where everything is an illusion; a hollow one with no great revelation behind the curtain, only disappointment. That sounds incredibly harsh as Now You See Me, for most of the duration at least, is…

G-S-T Review…To Rome With Love
To Rome With Love is a light, heartwarming film made for dreamers and lovers that moves between several story lines with witty dialogue and lots of laughs. The film reintroduces us to many of the devices seen in the most traditional of Woody Allen films, including an appearance by Allen himself. The film is constructed of four diverging stories about love, fame and longing. In the first sequence the audience is introduced to Italian newlyweds who’ve come to Rome to meet with the husband’s high-society family. Next we encounter an average, middle-class Roman (Roberto Benigni) and his wife and family whose lives are turned upside down by the media. In another story, Jesse Eisenberg plays a young architect…

Sweet Trailer…'Free Samples'
For those in the mood for something a little less Hollywood, this might be up your alley. This deliciously indie-feeling and quirky drama stars Jess Weixler as Jillian, a Stanford law-school dropout, who is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. On the day of her college boyfriend’s birthday, she finds herself stuck running an ice cream truck fending off Los Angeles locals and oddball friends alike. Free Samples takes place all in one day and shows Jillian waking from her aimless daze as she begins to see that life doesn’t stop just because she wants it to. Check out the trailer below and thanks to The Film…

Sweet (Redband) Trailer…'30 Minutes Or Less'
OK everyone, last trailer this week, promise. From Ruben Fleischer, the director of Zombieland, comes his new comedy 30 Minutes or Less. Once again we follow Jesse Eisenberg through some more inescapable socially awkward situations and hijinx. This time though, Mr Fleicher is having Jesse trade Zombies and twinkies for a bomb and a bank robbery…trust me, it’ll make more sense when you watch it. Have a look! So remember what I said yesterday about Redband trailers hyping a movie that probably won’t be very good? Well today I take a slightly recanted stance. 30 Minutes or Less looks pretty damn funny and I’m eager to see more, especially if…
