Interview…The Waltzes, Wizards and Wonder of Composer Patrick Doyle

As die-hard fans of film scores, one of our favorite people to speak with is composer Patrick Doyle. While he’s known the world over for his sensational, rousing, and robust music, that’s really only a portion of the man. Whenever we talk to him about his life, we segue into topics that, some times, are even more fascinating than the topic du jour. For instance, Patrick lives in London and has had a holiday home in France for 30 years; a building that conservatively one could estimate was built in the 1700s. Also, not many people can claim to own a tapestry that adorns a centuries old wall. That’s pretty…

Sweet Trailer…Kenneth Branagh is Back in ‘A Haunting In Venice’

If you thought 2023 didn’t have any more surprises, then how about this?? To help wind down a banner year for films, here’s an old-school murder mystery from Kenneth Brangagh. Just in time for Halloween, the Oscar-winning thespian/director once again dons his famous mustache in his third outing playing celebrated sleuth Hercule Poirot. This film sets him in an unsettling supernatural thriller based upon the novel “Hallowe’en Party” by Agatha Christie. And per usual, the locations are dreamy (or nightmarish in this case), the wordplay is razor sharp, the costumes are stunning and the all-star cast is a yet another brilliant ensemble. Have a look and get ready for another…

Ohhh, Look…Christopher Nolan Shooting ‘Oppenheimer’ on IMAX

When it comes to big time filmmakers, it’s tough to get any more majestic than Christopher Nolan. Looking back over his career, even his more quaint outings were still brimming with grandiose plots and through lines. Since the days of Following and Memento, he’s helped re-imagine super hero films, heady heist films, detective yarns, war narratives, intergalactic family affairs, and techy spy thrillers. One thing is for sure, Nolan films are event films. Case in point. His latest is an epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man, J. Robert Oppenheimer, who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. It was one…

    Off the Shelf…Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Cinderella’

When a film is said to be “iconic”, it means that the story itself has become infused with a certain mythos, whereby the idea of said property is ever grander than the actual film. In instances like that, it really takes someone (or a studio) with a certain resolve to attempt to successfully retell a famous yarn. In the case of 2015’s Cinderella, a live-action adaptation offers the chance, an obligation really, to truly flesh out the story and make it memorable, in more ways than one. After all, Cinderella is a tale that has existed in cultures all over the world for, believe it or not, nearly 2000 years. It’s…
