Interview…Film Composer Patrick Doyle Weaves Magic for a Whole New Generation with ‘Cinderella’

If you visit the site often, or know me personally, you know that I love film…but I love film scores a whole lot more. Our “Composer Series” has become a large part of the site, and it has been incredibly rewarding being afforded the opportunity to speak with those who have created some of the most iconic and indelible themes of the last half century. Case in point. When we spoke with Patrick Doyle last year, we discussed his and Kenneth Branagh’s efforts to reboot the Jack Ryan franchise. His hybrid approach to the tech-thriller score was an exercise in tension and excitement, and everything you could want in a…

    Sweet Trailer…Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Cinderalla’

Whether the story is Shakespearean, a comic book adaptation or any number of taut thrillers, Kenneth Branagh‘s gift for weaving complex and compelling films knows no bounds. However, his next effort however finds him, somewhat, getting back to his roots. The live-action adaptation inspired by the classic fairy tale, Cinderella brings to life the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually-dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation. Branagh is a fine director, but he really shines when a project affords him the opportunity to do something with some real theatricality to it. Have a look at the latest trailer below… The story of “Cinderella”…

Interview…Film Composer Patrick Doyle Talks ‘Jack Ryan’, Love of Country and Having A Laugh At It All

Hailing from Uddingston, Scotland, musical maestro Patrick Doyle always has the hugest smile on his face, which makes him either the happiest guy on the planet, or someone who just really, really loves his job. Perhaps it’s both, but you can’t go a few seconds without hearing him laugh. Even over the phone you can sense the endless joy in his voice when he talks about his career, his passion and his good friend Sir Kenneth Branagh. In fact, the rare (but widely abundant on the web) photo above is one of the few times you won’t see him grinning like a kid with a key to a candy store.…

    G-S-T Review…Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

As an exercise in brand resuscitation, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit could be worse; the film does what films of its sort must, building its titular protagonist from the ground up and establishing a potential new franchise for the character going forward. Should the stars align (literally), we could see a Jack Ryan continuance in just a couple of years’ time, assuming Chris Pine can wriggle free from Star Trek‘s grasp and Kevin Costner isn’t busy playing the wise mentor figure to another young buck trying to figure out how to be a hero. This is malleable filmmaking. It necessitates very little by way of continuity. Of course, that particular element…

Ohhh, Look…New Stills From 'The World's End' and 'Jack Ryan'

This time of year we film fans usually do three things without fail – shake off the Winter cold, brave the hit and miss “dump” titles from all the major studios, and get ready for the most anticipated titles in the coming months. Well you’re on your own with the first two but we can help you out with the latter. We’ve already got delightful chills and smiles thanks to the impressive looking stills from Man of Steel, Kick-Ass 2 and The Wolverine but now here’s just a little more eye candy. First up is The World’s End, which stars co-writer and director Edgar Wright’ s usual suspects Simon Pegg,  Nick Frost and Martin Freeman who are joined Paddy…

Kevin Costner Cast In Multiple Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan Film Adaptations

A few years ago we were extremely excited to report on what looked to be a solid couple of years for Kevin Costner. Having current success that’s starting to rival his status in the 80s/90s Kevin is teetering on the brink of a renaissance. Sure he’s an Oscar-winning actor and director, let’s look past his altruistic humaitaian efforts and the fact he’s got some chops as a country musician, but now beyond Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, he’s going to be quite the hot commodity in Hollywood once again. Kevin Costner was recently courted for and soon after signed on to a role in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Jack Ryan film for Paramount. Starring…
