Well here’s a fine way to end the week. What is likely the last comic book trailer we’ll get this year, this 2 minute and 33 second teaser is the equivalent of Bryan Singer dropping the mic on 2015. The X-Men films have gotten better since Matthew Vaughn’s First Class and Singer’s return to Marvel with Days of Future Past. So, rounding out this prequelogy (pretty sure that’s not really a thing, but it sounds neat) is the impressive looking X-Men: Apocalypse. Due out next May, 2016 is going to be a comic book smack down of epic proportions, both on-screen and at the box office. Enjoy this first trailer…

G-S-T Review…Young Ones
Bold and ambitious, yet simple and economic, Jake Paltrow’s neo-Western, Young Ones, should be remembered for two things. First, it paints an amazing portrait of a near-future that is so plausible, it’s nearly on our doorstep. Second, while the characters lead bleak lives, this sci-fi picture never lets the science fiction get in the way of the story. Although somewhat exaggerated, and detestable at times, the human element really shines in this dismal but slightly hopeful narrative. As far as sci-fi films go, the world, for the last decade or so, is and has been in a bit of a cultural renaissance (longer if you consider The Matrix turned 15 this year). It’s true however that high caliber thinking-man’s sci-fi or weighty wham bam actioners are not so abundant that we have to swat them away from our screens. In the vein of iconic monster/adventure properties like The Monster Squad, Scooby-Doo even The Iron Giant comes Laika’s follow-up to their hit film Coraline. ParaNorman, is a fantastically intricate stop-motion (or “stop-frame” to you film fans in the UK) animated film that follows Norman, a young boy who is more than a little obsessed with the macabre…he can actually see and communicate with ghosts.
