People complain about sequels, but let’s get this out of the way. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is good. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice works. And that’s because the story works. It’s a semi-charming set up – replete with familiar Burton oddities – about a bio exorcist who is less than charming. The story by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar cleverly weaves older characters back into the sequel, and the best thing the team does is that they don’t try to explain too much. The ghost with the most has endured because he is mysterious. What are his powers, why and how does he do what he does? Unclear. Do we care? Not really. The point…

Sweet Trailer…’The Flash’
DC has been on a roll for a while and their time in the sun is now. How awesome does this grand cinematic adventure look?? We get multiple Batmans, multiple Flashes, time travel, and Michael Shannon’s Zod?! What’s not to love? However, it’s not just tons of fan service. This film looks to contain incredible reverence for what the Tim Burton classic has done for comic adaptations and cinema in general. While Michael Keaton is clearly the hook – the nods to the ‘89 film make the 9-year old me smile – this story is something that will stand beyond getting our old heroes back on the big screen. And…

Sweet Trailer…’Spotlight’
We are die-hard Michael Keaton fans and Birdman (read our glowing review here) was everything we could have wanted – both for a story and for him as an actor. In his latest film, Keaton gets back into the world of journalism, which seems to be a theme. Anyone remember The Paper, or Live From Baghdad? Everyone knows he’s got the chops for a multitude of dramatic stories, but we would love to see another foray into comedy. Wishful thinking, but we’ll see anything he’s in without fail. So for now, Spotlight looks solid. Enjoy the trailer below… SPOTLIGHT is a tense investigative thriller, tracing the steps to one of the biggest crime stories in…

Interview…Composer Antonio Sanchez on the Drums and Jazzy Ambiguity of ‘Birdman’
Thanksgiving is just a few days away, but before we dig into the seasonal fowl, let’s digest this year’s other most buzz-worthy winged creature. We wrote a rather glowing review of Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (check it out here), and last week we got to speak with Antonio Sanchez about his background and experiences on such an exceptional project. Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu‘s one-of-a-kind film hit theaters in October, and people are still talking about it – a rarity for an independent film in the weeks before the awards heavy holiday season begins. Picking up speed on a weekly basis, Birdman is certainly the one to beat in 2014. It’s a tour…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…’Minions’
It’s not often that a sidekick gets his or her own film. But then again, the “Minions” (from the Despicable Me series) are no ordinary sidekicks are they? As the world is already in love with those goofy little guys, the folks at Universal thought that a proper origin story would be the best route. Their forthcoming 2015 film will show us the long history of these loyal and glib goobers while focusing on three special Minions in particular – Stuart, Kevin and Bob. Enjoy the official teaser trailer for Minions below… Meet Stuart, Kevin and Bob as they embark on a journey for their new master in the Official Trailer…

G-S-T Review…Birdman
Sometimes, the line between fiction and reality can be blurry; other times however, it is altogether indistinguishable. Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s Birdman is about a former A-list actor now seeking a final shot at fame and, more importantly, relevance through a play he’s adapted, directed and starring in. Only it hasn’t opened yet. Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) has three preview nights to work the kinks out and get a handle on all the things misfiring in his life – from his broken family to his prima donna actors. It’s a story about being behind the scenes of a play, but, more importantly, it’s very self-referential. An exaggerated reflection of all the issues, it’s…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…Alejandro Iñárritu’s ‘Birdman’
OK, stop what you’re doing. There’s a new Michael Keaton movie on the horizon….and to those of you skimming the title and body of this post too fast, no, he’s not taking up a new cape and kicking crime’s ass (we wish). But he is however starring in the latest from Alejandro Innaritu. In a premise so crazy it might just work fantastically (again, we hope) Michael Keaton is, in fact playing a has-been actor who played a superhero earlier in his career and now seeks so reclaim his former glory in this dark and slightly trippy looking comedy. [Disclaimer: this is in no way autobiographical] This week we’ve seen…
