Since starting GoSeeTalk in 2009, I’ve attended Fantastic Fest four times (oddly, I have been on even years since 2012), and 2018 might just take the cake. In three-and-half days I saw 11 movies, wrote 4 full reviews & 6 mini write-ups, conducted 3 interviews, slept roughly 7 hours in total, downed dozens of beers, and had the best damn time yet! But it’s not just the quality of films that make for a great time. The more time I spend at festivals, I find what keeps me coming back are the personal experiences more than the narratives playing to die-hard genre film fans. And believe me, I have my share…

Interview…Brian McNelis Discusses Vinyl Releases at Lakeshore Records and Experiences in the Music Industry
Thanks largely to a trip to Record Store Day in 2014, I have become an increasing fan of soundtrack releases on vinyl…and I’ve never looked back. You may have your own go-to retailers, and while a significant portion of my collection is comprised of Mondo titles, Lakeshore Records (the independent music division of Lakeshore Entertainment) remains a notable force that issues some of the most vibrant, stunning, and downright bad-ass releases you’ve ever seen. We spoke to the company’s Senior Vice President of Music and Soundtracks, Brian McNelis, about his day-to-day with Lakeshore. As you might expect, after scanning through the hefty number of releases on the Lakeshore Records website,…

G-S-T Review…My Life Directed By Nicolas Winding Refn
Editor’s Note: This review has been republished in conjunction with the theatrical and the VOD release on February 27, 2015. It originally posted with the rest of our reviews and coverage at Fantastic Fest this past September. When a filmmaker sets out to tell a story, their goals are simple: get the ideas they have in their head on to the screen, and have the audience enjoy it. Seems straightforward enough, but there are a multitude of challenges to achieve either goal. Really, the odds are stacked against every filmmaker simply because we the audience are becoming increasingly tougher to satisfy. A lot of it comes from how much content is…

Video Interview…’My Life Directed By Nicolas Winding Refn’ Director Liv Corfixen
Editor’s Note: This interview has been republished in conjunction with the theatrical and the VOD release on February 27, 2015. It originally posted with the rest of our reviews and coverage at Fantastic Fest this past September. Fantastic Fest is a festival where anything can happen. Further, while there, you can meet just about anyone including one-of-a-kind filmmakers like Nicolas Winding Refn. To calm your nerves, no, he wasn’t there promoting a new film (though he is working on one). In fact, this intense and uncompromising auteur is the subject of his wife’s film. Directed by Liv Corfixen, My Life Directed By Nicolas Winding Refn is a very personal making-of documentary that…

Sweet (Red Band) Trailer…'Only God Forgives'
Things have been really good for Ryan Gosling over the last decade. After a slew of hits including The Notebook, Drive, The Ides of March, the upcoming film The Place Beyond the Pines and even fluffier fares like Crazy Stupid Love, Gosling looks to continue his hit streak with Only God Forgives. Re-teaming with G-S-T favorite Nicolas Winding Refn this follow up to Drive looks like it’ll be another stunning film…and why wouldn’t it be? Regardless of an exceptionally talented filmmaker like Refn behind the camera, Gosling is that rare breed of actor who can take just about any role. Further, his career has continued to skyrocket because of the types of…

Time to Meet the Devil: 'Only God Forgives' Teaser Clip
I’m going to hazard a guess here and assume that this clip stands a good chance of getting yanked, so if you want to see twenty seconds of footage from Only God Forgives, Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming re-teaming with Ryan “Hey Girl” Gosling, you’d better click the Youtube window below quick-smart. The film has distribution courtesy of Radius-TWC, but it doesn’t have a solid release date as of yet; I’d expect that to change either just before or just after Cannes, when the movie will likely screen in full for the first time. First impressions: unsurprisingly, this looks like a spiritual cousin to Drive between the promise of graphic, brutal…
