As a movie related website, we’ve been on the web since early 2009. But we never would have thought that we would ever report on a sequel to the 1982 classic, Blade Runner. Now while we’ve never been as taken by Sir Ridley Scott’s seminal masterpiece as the rest of the world has, over time, I’ve personally come to appreciate its importance and the popularity behind it. So while we are many months out from its release, behold, the first trailer, err, “announcement” for Blade Runner 2049. It’s mostly filled with sandy hues and a lot of text, but it still looks so very noir. Thirty years after the events…

G-S-T Review…The Nice Guys
Whatever narrative nugget come from the mind of Shane Black, it is most likely guaranteed to be gold – comedic, dramatic, or something in between. Given that this hilarious detective yarn seems culled from any number of buddy cop films, or seminal TV shows, The Nice Guys is an uproarious outing, and one that allows Black to prove that what’s old is new again. Filmmakers can fall into a rhythm (or a rut) where they more or less make the same movie. The Nice Guys seems familiar, but Black is able to make this different by making it what he wants it to be. That does however mean a few too many…

Sweet (Red Band) Trailer…’The Nice Guys’
If you love Shane Black‘s work (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, et al) then you are going to freak out at the awesomeness of his latest buddy flick The Nice Guys. The film is a throwback romp starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and holy hell, this looks hilarious! While this isn’t the re-teaming of Robert Downey, Jr. and Val Kilmer that fans have been looking for, this actually seems to be a better looking story. Trailers pushing the 3:00 mark tend to give a lot away, but it’s safe to say that this glimpse into Black’s next endeavor is just the tip of the iceberg…and this particular…

G-S-T Review…The Place Beyond the Pines
Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is a viscerally pensive film and an enthralling multi-generational drama. As equally well-crafted as his highly received Blue Valentine, Pines is a complex and engrossing film that takes a look at legacies and what we leave behind for our kids. Further it shows us that those legacies, whether we want them or not, can sometimes make life choices for us without our say in the matter. It’s an ever-escalating, multilayered, emotionally bold familial drama that has all the makings of an instant classic. Cianfrance’s sophomore effort tells a sobering story about love and family and further one that despite the best of intentions may all end in a dismal trail of…
