At Least Three New Studio Ghibli Projects Supposedly In Development

Studio Ghibli is never content to rest on their laurels or let the ink dry. Their charming and wonderful film from 2010 The Secret World of Arrietty will finally hit U.S. theaters this Friday (look for a G-S-T review then as well). Also, From Up On Poppy Hill (the second effort from Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro Miyazaki) was released last July in Japan. It has been making its way around the world, stopping at a Film Festival or two and has been very well received. But word from the other side of the world is that the studio, as suspected, is hard at work developing some new projects. For those of you ever hungry for the latest work from little animation…

    G-S-T Review…The Vow

What would you do if the person you love couldn’t remember you? How how hard would you try to get them and their memories back? Sounds kind of like science-fiction right? Well it’s not, The Vow is based on real events and it’s actually a pretty inspiring little story. Moreover one that should not be written off at first glance. True the timing of this release can be considered Valentine’s Day fluff, but look past where the film lands on the calendar this year and you’ll find a story that is stripped of pretentious candy coating and an example of what true love is really all about.

Off the Shelf…’Lady and the Tramp’

And we call it bella notte. Disney’s Lady and the Tramp arrives on Blu-Ray as the latest addition to their remarkable Diamond Edition series. We’ve seen how features like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast look on Blu-Ray, but how about a feature from way back in 1955? Well, in short, it is glorious! This fits right in place alongside all the Disney treasures and love stories. Sure it’s not of the Princess/fantasy variety we’re used to seeing but still a wonderful tale for any fan of Disney films, or canines, or both. Kids have a lot thrown at them these days so sometimes you need a trip back to…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'The Bourne Legacy'

The spy world is bigger than we ever imaged and to show it is this teaser for the Tony Gilroy written & directed parallel to the Doug Liman/Paul Greengrass films. Even the tag line “There was never just one” is smart and speaks volumes. Cemented as a bad-ass in The Hurt Locker and hot off the success of the latest Mission Impossible, Jeremy Renner looks to become the next big action hero. This film will be the start of a whole new series following a Jason Bourne-like agent. But since it’s as much about the agency as it is the agent, there’s plenty of nods to the Damon films as well as familiar faces with…

    Sweet (2nd) Trailer…'The Amazing Spider-Man'

The term “jaw-dropping” gets thrown around a lot when talking about films. But how many trailers do you recall that you think deserved to be called the same? Today we have the second full trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man and I think it is totally jaw-dropping!! Many, many people were curious to see how anyone would top the Raimi films (putting aside the fact that this series reboot was started so insultingly soon after Spider-Man 3) but this trailer should find all naysayers, myself included, picking their chins off the floor. Enjoy!! Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker along with Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy (fun fact: she’s the second red-head to…

Sweet Trailer…'The Avengers' Super Bowl TV Spot

The Avengers has been a long time coming with 6, count em, 6 films (4 origin stories, 1 sequel and 1 reboot) leading up to Joss Whedon’s highly  anticipated ensemble action flick. Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Hulk are all that stands between Loki and the certain annihilation of Earth. Sure he’s got an army but we have…well, you’ll see! Have a look at the full Super Bowl TV Spot for The Avengers… Admittedly this is little more than what we’ve seen in the teaser. I mean we still don’t even know who The Avengers are fighting. But is that a problem? If you ask me, I say not one bit. Sure is…
