Interview…Henry Jackman and Kevin Olusola on the Cornucopia of Chaos in ‘The Bluff’

Composer Henry Jackman is on the short list of seasoned composers who can concoct and deliver an elevated musical palette. Whether the story is about mutant, vigilantes, pirates or the mighty Kong, his work serves as more than the backdrop to the narrative. It is the jet fuel that courses through the picture and literally makes characters fly.

We’ve spoken to him a handful of times over the years and his approach to composition and the ideas he manifests live on long after you’ve left the theater. To help make his latest cinematic confection oh so sweet, he enlisted an equally talented and courageous musician to try things that, as far as we all know, have never been done before.

Using his deft ability to play cello in an out-of-the-box fashion along with a flavoring of beatboxing, Kevin Olusola (of Pentatonix) came in to bridge the gap between Henry’s mind/mouth to the speakers. The result gives us a piratical actioner that cuts as deep as Priyanka Chopra’s sabre and explodes like a mortar made of solid gold. Unexpected is an understatement, and it’s just what this hard-edged story needed. These guys rock, and together they make sparks…just what you need on an island to make fire!

We chat with Commodore Jackman and Quartermaster Olusola to learn more about their sonic cornucopia of chaos. It’s an assault on your senses, but also has some beautiful moments sprinkled in among the mayhem. Yar! Enjoy the latest episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
