Interview…Brittany Allen on Charisma, Composition and Courageous Acting Choices

With so much fantastic and noteworthy stories, music and films out there, it’s possible that we take for granted just how hard it is to be an entertainer. The trick, as they say, it to make it look easy. When there’s a great performance, spellbinding novel or a perfect song/album, it can seem like it all came together without any stress. That’s where any creative would tell you that their main goal is to not let you see them sweat. They are determined to impress, and when they do you’re bound to remember them.

Speaking of grit and determination, one such individual is Canadian-born actress and musician, Brittany Allen. This nimble, courageous, and charming multi-hyphenate is able to grab your attention on screen and right through your speakers. We spoke to Brittany years ago when she released her Khamai Lion album (pronounced “chameleon“). She is truly adept at creating pure sonic poetry while sharing stories and experiences from her life with the listener. It’s an album we spin regularly at GST headquarters.

What makes Allen a notable actor is just how much of herself she puts into each project – sonically, stylistically, silly or deadly serious. In a film like The Yeti, it’s almost like putting on a play so it’s like flexing different acting muscles. Which is also something to note about her three-episode arc in The Pitt. She almost didn’t get to use any muscles. As a late-stage cancer patient, Roxie Hammer never got off the hospital bed – her eyes and emotions did all the heavy lifting.

Anyway, we were thrilled to catch up with Britt. We talk about music, family, Fantastic Fest and more on this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
