Fan boys the world over (and film fans in general) are having trouble accepting Jose Padilha’s upcoming RoboCop remake. As we’ve seen many stories we cinephiles hold dear suffer a disastrous facelift (I’m looking at you Total Recall) it’s only a matter of time before everything gets remade and sorry Verhoeven fans, this too is coming whether we want it or not. Now trying to keep an open mind here, there are some decent bits to this production (like the supporting cast) but still not a whole lot points to any reason why this needed to be remade. Sweet Trailer…Hayao Miyazaki's 'The Wind Rises'
Legendary animator and founder of the world-renowned Studio Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki announced earlier this year that he is finally, yes finally going to retire. He tried before, twice but now it’s official. His final animated film is called The Wind Rises and is about Jirō Horikoshi, the designer of Japan’s famous Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane. The film made the festival rounds and if you missed it you’ll have to wait until next year to catch it. But Ghibli films are worth the wait…even if they are dubbed. Tribeca Film Acquires British Drama ‘Starred Up’
Tribeca Film recently announced it had acquired North American rights to Scottish director David Mackenzie’s award-winning gritty prison drama Starred Up, which stars Jack O’Connell (“Skins”, Angelina Jolie’s upcoming Unbroken), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, The Place Beyond the Pines), and Rupert Friend (“Homeland”). The terms and ideas surrounding a character like Marvel’s Thor (Odinsleep, bifrost, Yggdrasil, etc.) whether based on Norse mythology or not, are admittedly strange.
