Ohhh, Listen…Preview Thomas Newman’s Score From ‘Skyfall’

On October 5th fans around the globe celebrated the 50th anniversary of everyone’s favorite secret agent. Like a steam roller, Bond 23 has been pushing toward its November 9th release date. From an Oscar-winning director (and his video blogs), to a simply top drawer cast, to Adele’s sensationally Bond-esqe title song, it looks like Skyfall and will live up to the hype. Well as fans of films scores we at G-S-T were over the moon to find out that Thomas Newman would be lending his talents to the 007 franchise. As regular composer David Arnold had to bow out to help work on the 2012 Olympics, we’re excited to see what Newman will bring to the table.…

Pixar Goes Viral With Actual 'Monsters University' Website

Well, nobody ever accused Pixar of being anything other than creative, thoughtful, and detail-oriented. The animation studio’s next film, Monsters University, marks the first prequel they’ve ever entertained as a company, and while there’s been some hand-wringing over the project based on concerns over originality, it’s hard to feel that much anxiety over their 2013 offering when the preview material is as spot-on and engaging as this bit of ingeniousness. I grant that promotional work is one of Pixar’s realms of expertise: they know how to advertise and promote their projects like nobody else. The in-depth Monsters University website is no exception. Put simply, this thing is comprehensive. In point of fact, I…

She’s put some time in and the designs are flat out brilliant and witty in their simplicity. So enough yammering, have a look at the tastier picks from her collection below and then head over to her site to see the whole shebang from A to Z……

    G-S-T Review…Taken 2

Going into a Luc Besson film (whether he produced it, directed it, or in this case penned it) you’ll likely find two distinct elements: kick ass action and memorable/likable characters. It’s easily evidenced looking back at his earlier works like The Fifth Element, Leon, Wasabi, The Transporter and Taken. But after a surprise hit actioner like Pierre Morel’s Taken, to try and top that, even with Besson on board, Olivier Megaton has a tough act to follow. Yet all the hope in the world couldn’t make this anticipated follow up/supposedly white hot revenge thriller more than a hollow luke warm sequel. It’s like Bryan Mills or rather Liam Neeson is there in spirit but the flesh is weak…and so’s…

    G-S-T Review…Butter

You can’t go anywhere today without being inundated with technology.  Children today have greater technological advancements at their fingertips than NASA had when it launched its first rocket.  Every facet of our lives has been influenced by technology and movies are no exception.  Movies now benefit from realistic CG and incredible graphics.  The time it takes for a movie to go from script to screen is now measured in a matter of weeks rather than months.  All that being said, it’s nice to take a step back occasionally and watch a film that does not rely heavily upon computer-generated material.  Butter is just such a film. In a small town…

    Sweet Trailer…Disney's 'The Lone Ranger'

It seems that no studio is without production/financial/creative woes. We heard about the long struggle to get Skyfall up and moving and for the past year we’ve been heard similar stories about the roller coaster ride that was the production of Disney’s The Lone Ranger. Snagging some great talent like Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, but also hitting some financial snags, the film pushed on. So here we have the first real glimpse at the world of the Ranger and it looks solid. Enjoy!! Directed by Gore Verbinski, this film finds Johnny Depp reunited with his fellow Pirates of the Caribbean alum as he stars alongside Armie Hammer star as the titular hero.…

    Sweet (Red Band) Trailer…'Movie 43'

What is this? The ABC’s of Comedy? Well for 4 years now a little project called Movie 43 has been in production and this is the first taste of the off-the-wall humor we can expect. The ensemble comedy boasts a plethora of major league talents and directors doing what they do best; make us laugh. But this isn’t your father’s late night/gross out comedy movie, these guys are really going for it. Kind of hits you by surprise seeing the caliber of talent going to such raunchy levels of comedy but still funny as hell. Wow…just how many stars can you cram into a film like this?? Well have a…

    G-S-T Review…Solomon Kane

I don’t know if I’m doing Solomon Kane any favors by discussing its common ancestry; connecting the film to a gene pool that contains Van Helsing and Season of the Witch brands it with a very specific set of very low expectations. In fact, I may be damning Solomon Kane with faint praise when I say that it happens to be several cuts above both of those disasters. Thus, I have to rely on my readers’ trust in me as a critic when I say that Michael J. Bassett’s cinematic rendition of Robert E. Howard’s Puritanical anti-hero really is an earnest and pretty damn entertaining vision of Gothic pulp heroics. It…
