Interview…Composer Jared DePasquale on Deep Dives Into Audio Soundscapes

For nearly thirty years Jared DePasquale has composed the musical scores for some of Western culture’s most celebrated stories and iconic characters. The recipient of numerous awards and critical acclaim, his work is widely recognized for its ability to musically capture complex characters amidst stories that are rich in texture and meaning.

Early in his career, Jared apprenticed under Emmy and ASCAP Award winning composer Joseph LoDuca. With LoDuca, Jared learned the business of composing for A-list projects including the globally syndicated television shows Xena: The Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

Immediately following his apprenticeship, Jared scored several horror films for Full Moon Pictures and Rapid Heart Pictures and was recognized by Music from the Movies as one of the three most promising and interesting talents among film composers today.   His score for “At the Back of the North Wind” won a 2006 Audie Award for “Achievement in Production”, as the score was recorded in 5.1 surround sound at Nashville’s iconic OceanWay Studios.

DePasquale is a 10 time Seneca Award Nominee, and is the only person, regardless of award category, to have won three consecutive Seneca Awards (2017-2019).  When Jared isn’t writing, he enjoys passing on his passion for scoring to the next generation, where he has been a guest lecturer at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, Wheaton College, Judson University, Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music, Nashville’s Score-Con, and Sonic-Con at Liberty University.

We were introduced to Jared through a mutual friend, and let’s just say that friend’s recommendation goes a long way. Jared is an amazing musician and a great guest to chat with. So enjoy this interview with a man who dives so deep into creative waters (before writing a single note), he’s almost unfathomable. We had a blast talking about music, method, melody, baseball, and more.
