Interview…Creative Team Behind the Themes and Massive Mythology of ‘Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead’

In nautical terms, sometimes it’s the smallest fish who makes the biggest waves. And this seems to be very appropriate to describe the highly ambitious and very enjoyable tale from Croatian filmmakers Zoran Lisinac, Domagoj Mazuran, and Neb Chupin. This hydra of talent is a collective powerhouse bringing their spectacular story of visual and narrative splendor to the masses.

Moreover, you don’t get grand tales like this too often, especially ones that feel highly unique. On that note, Storm Rider is steeped in original mythology and feels like the talented team had the likes of Tolkien, Bay and Singh on their minds for decades. And they are also very eager to showcase their home country, as well as the Adriatic, while delivering something that feels fast, fun and substantive.

The film combines tried-and-true adventure themes with some of the coolest production design and practical locations you’d find outside of Hogwarts or a Bond film. Rebellion, love, fate, it’s all there and more, but done in a way that feels fresh, relatable and oh so very pretty to look at. Further, when it comes to large scale world-building, you tend to think of Dune, Star Wars, The Matrix, and Game of Thrones, right? So, hat tip to these passionately resourceful storytellers sharing their “Calamari Sci-Fi” and show they not only keep pace with the big dogs but, with a little lighting, can get out ahead more than a few times.

And while it’s easy to dig into the rich story beats and the gorgeous prop design, you don’t have to get even that far to be impressed with their work. I mean, look at the title – Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead is such a cool name! And feels like the kind of electrifying excitement that you’d find with Godzilla vs. Kong. This is Joseph Campbell at its finest (read: myth of the hero) and similar larger-than-life archetypes.

One thing is for sure, the team of Neb, Dom, and Zoran are like The Little Engine That Could or, better, Scuffy the Tugboat pulling this gargantuan story from their minds, through the water, and onto the big screen. Our hat is off to them. No matter what happens, we are impressed and hope the world falls in love with the look, feel, and themes of Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead. Lastly, for a little bit of fun, you just have to say the name of the movie as if you were watching a Wrestlemania event…it’s just fun to say. Enjoy this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
