Interview…’Jessica’s Big Little World’ Co-Creators and Star on Inspiration, Messages and Growing Up

Ask any kid what’s the biggest challenge about being a “kid”, and they’ll probably say it’s not being big. So enter a highly creative and adorable show from Cartoon Network about that very thing. From the creators of Craig of the Creek comes a show all about Craig’s lovable little sister, the one-and-only Jessica.

Jessica’s Big Little World hooks you quickly, and it’s because of the material. Sure, it’s a kids show, but it’s about relevant topics to very young kids. With touches of fantasy and lots of fun it deals with role models, responsibility, and then the biggest hurdle for any kid: doing things themselves.

It’s not about geography, but about their place in the world. It’s not about mathematics, but about the order of things in a bedtime routine. These bite-size adventures and lessons are as as topical as they are fun. And this show just oozes charm be it from the delightful fantasy sequences, the uplifting songs, or the anime-inspired quirks to the characters who find magic all around them.

This new preschool show from the world of Craig of the Creek sets up the framework specific to their wildly imaginative eponymous character. Co-creator and showrunner Tiffany Ford tells us the mindset behind this show,

“My angle is that you would look at Jessica’s world and see the magic that is in our everyday space. Craig goes to the creek. That is a wonderful world of exploration. This is where his magical space is – his safe space. Jessica is not big enough to go there by herself. Her safe space is at home, at the grocery store with her parents, so we wanted to create this sense of magic and also communicate that this space you have is totally wonderful and special.”

We had the chance to chat with Tiffany, and fellow creators Matt Burnett and Ben Levin as well as Jessica herself, Lucia Cunningham to talk about riding a bike, role models, inspiration and, of course, noodle dancing. Enjoy!

The brand-new preschool series “Jessica’s Big Little World” will debut on Cartoon Network on October 2 at 8am and October 7 on Max. A spin-off of the Emmy®, GLAAD, and NAACP Image Award-nominated series “Craig of the Creek,” “Jessica’s Big Little World” centers on the adventures of Craig’s resilient little sister Jessica. With the help of her friends, imaginary and real, Jessica sets off to take on the world, even if she still does suck her thumb…sometimes.
