One of the treats we found at this year’s Fantastic Fest is writer-director Steven Kostanski‘s remake of Deathstalker. The fantasy film is one of a handful of efforts reviving beloved and/or obscure films from the last forty years. Kostanski has a knack and fondness for practical effects and he makes nearly everything himself – talk about putting yourself in your work. He inspires others whether it’s the cast or composers and it’s because his films come down to one thing: fun.
It is evident Steven is a fan of Army of Darkness, Willow, Ghostbusters and plenty more films with standout monsters of that era. With Deathstalker, he’s outdone himself in the creature department. Herein, they’re so cool, intricate and well-designed, your younger self is probably wishing you had these toys as a kid. But who are we fooling…we’d love to have them now!! Among the goop, gunk and gruesome kills, beneath the latex and the clan of monstrous assassins, there’s plenty of irreverence and wink-at-the-camera glee to be had. And of the cast, Nina Bergman gives us a double dose of awesome being on camera and adding a kick ass end credit song to Kostanski’s throwback sword and slime opus.
Actress and singer-songwriter Nina Bergman has a lifetime of song and dance in her DNA. Over the years, she’s put in the time, energy and all-out will power to get where she is. Band after band, film after film, she excels because of her positivity, powerful pipes, killer smile and fun-loving attitude…unless you try to steal her drummer. But we’ll let her tell you about that.
Bergman wrote and performed the song “Walking Alone,” featuring multi-instrumentalist Jonah Nimoy and music producer Jay Ruston. Jay Ruston has been recording, producing, and mixing powerful, world-class records since 1997. “Walking Alone” is part of a three-track single, with the title track featuring Emmy and BAFTA award–winning composer Bear McCreary and Slash. The film had its fill of amazing music talents and to top it off, the score was composed by Blitz//Berlin (check out our rad interview with them).
It’s clear that Nina gets a big kick out of doing what she does. Next year, she’ll be busier than ever especially with her focus on a project called Fierce N Vegan. All in all, she’s thankful to be doing what she loves, and Nina attributes that to her close-knit group of talented people, focus on healthy body and mind, and other lessons learned. We talk about all that and more, so shabbadon’t miss this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
You can find out all about Nina’s current/upcoming projects and positive pursuits by checking out her official site and following her on Instagram…
