Next Up On Kevin Costner's Plate…A Lot!!

Hello World, Marc Here:

I’m just about finished checking the backlog of things I missed while on my Honeymoon and boy am I glad to have found this tidbit below. Now before I get to the good stuff, I wanted to get something out. I don’t think it’s a surprise to any of you that Kevin Costner is one of my favorite actors. Drama, comedy, epics, you name it, he’ll do it. Sure he had some missteps but what great director/actor hasn’t? Me, I just adore his work, well, most of his films anyway. Without fail, and sometimes to a fault, I will see anything he’s attached to. But the man has such a proven track record. I think that in another 10-15 years he could be at that point in his career where Clint Eastwood is now. What? It could happen…

But for the time being, I have some great “in production” news for all you Costner fans out there (the good stuff I mentioned above). From Vic and the awesome team at Screen Rant we get the following (read: SWEET!!) update:

Oscar-winning actor/director Kevin Costner hasn’t directed a film since 2003’s excellent western Open Range. Well, it looks like Costner is about to get back into the directors saddle with the World War II action-adventure A Little War of Our Own. He’s also set to star in Learning Italian, a spy comedy from his Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Waterworld director, Kevin Reynolds.

Costner will star in Our Own Private War, which is due to start shooting in the fall. According to Variety the film “centers on a sheriff who must try to keep a town from exploding into violence.

Costner will portray the sheriff in the film, which sounds like a modern (ish) western – a genre that Costner is right at home in after starring in the above mentioned Open Range, as well as Dances With WolvesWyatt Earp and Silverado.

Deadline also reports that Costner is set to star in a spy comedy called Learning Italian for his old friend Kevin Reynolds where “Costner will play a CIA agent who has been stationed in an idyllic coastal town in Italy to keep an eye on a KGB agent there — until both secret agencies order the two spies to return to their respective countries and cook up a pseudo-threat to justify their continued stays in Italy.

Deadline also states that Costner is set to direct another Western called Horizon, a film that I believe has been on the boil since Open Range was released. A four-hour prequel (which we told you about last year) starts shooting in the spring for A&E.

Kev sure sounds insanely busy with a plate as full as Guillermo Del Toro, wouldn’t you say? And a 4 hour prequel to Open Range?!?! Is that for real??…well I don’t know about you, but if it is, that sounds like a “slice of fried gold“?? Man, I can’t wait to hear more, what about you all??
