Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine was not an easy film to get through. That affecting anti-romantic story was a devastating look at love and loss and couldn’t have felt any more uncomfortable or real if they tired. This multi-generational film follows motorcycle stunt rider (Gosling) who turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover (Mendes) and their newborn child. Yet one decision puts him on a collision course with an ambitious rookie cop (Cooper) navigating a department ruled by a corrupt detective. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, The Place Beyond the Pines stars the headlining cast above as well as Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen. Focus Features has slated The Place Beyond the Pines for release this Spring on March 29th 2013.
