The 86th Annual Academy Awards – Full Winners List

The 86th Academy Awards aired last night and showcased everything we love about Hollywood and the film industry. Lots of great talent took home some deserving awards but it was Alfonso Cuarón‘s space fiasco Gravity which nabbed a total of 7 awards, including Best Director, Cinematography plus Best Original Score (go Steven Price!!). Dallas Buyers Club seemed to be a big surprise taking both the male acting categories and even hair and make-up. However the big shocker was that American Hustle, a film that was far less than the sum of its spectacular parts, took home zero awards after being nominated in 10 categories. It was a very competitive year but it looks like…

Ohhh, Look…New Clips from Miyazaki's Oscar-Nominated 'The Wind Rises'

While the animation world is still getting over the fact that The Wind Rises signals the officially official retirement of the legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki his final bow has been met with a very deserving Oscar nomination for “Best Animated Feature”. The Wind Rises is quite a departure from the fantastic fare he’s known for and is, in a way, a metaphor for his career. In fact, the film, whether intentionally or not, echos his efforts to create peerless animation. In The Wind Rises, Jiro Horikoshi dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a…

    Sweet (International) Trailer…'Jupiter Ascending’

You’ve got to hand it to the Wachowski siblings – whether you like (or understand) their films they repeatedly put things on screen the likes of which we’ve never seen before. But, at the cost of losing the audience, do they go too far? Perhaps but they’ve amassed a very loyal following even if their work hasn’t really moved the mercury for general audiences since the first Matrix film. In their next sci-fi, let’s call it an “experiment”, the duo look to either further engage or alienate viewers with another grand vision of the future. So far, many aspects of this production (casting, visuals, et al) don’t look like a…

    Off the Shelf…’The Jungle Book’

If you were to peek into the famous “Disney Vault” you might be overwhelmed with the plethora of titles the Mouse House has to its name. Moreover, a cross-section of the legendary studio reveals a myriad of success and skill at spinning and reworking all manner of titles ranging from Shakespeare to Hans Christian Andersen to The Brothers Grimm. With more than 50 features (more if you count their various labels and distribution arms) The Walt Disney Company, simply put, is king of animated interpretations and adaptations. 1967’s The Jungle Book is a feature inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s book of the same name. It is one of their older titles,…

    Sweet Trailer…Gareth Edwards’ ‘Godzilla’

He’s big, he’s bad and he is, without doubt, king of the monsters. And who better to bring this revitalized story of Godzilla to the big screen than Gareth Edwards? Sure he made a huge name for himself with his little film Monsters (a film that, partly because of the budget, focused way more on the human element in the aftermath of montrous devastation than the creatures) but can ge do justice to Toho’s legendary property? Well if you’ve seen the first trailer, and the awesome posters, then the property looks to be in good hands. Sit back and enjoy more epic monsterness…yes we know that’s not a word. Behold…

Just Who Are The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Anyway?

The first trailer (and first poster) for the James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy hit the web and was, in short, a huge surprise that left film fans clamoring for more insight into Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We always knew this was going to be a risky movie for the studio and the biggest hurdle was going to be the advertising/marketing. How do you make non-comic fans care about a rag tag team of space misfits they’ve most likely never hear about? Well the teaser did what it needed to (thank you Jimmy Kimmel and Chris Pratt) and now the following featurettes serve to give us all…

Ohhh, Look…Green Goblin Grinds The Amazing Spider-Man's Gears

If you haven’t seen it yet, and don’t mind a big reveal, the awesome shot below…wait, don’t scroll down yet…shows The Goblin (Dane DeHaan) and Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) duking it out. This awesome, yet surprisingly candid look at the action in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have just spoiled some of the mystery. Yet we all know DeHaan’s character Harry Osborn would eventually become The Goblin so it is what it is. Plus we don’t think the studio would let this good of a shot out in the open if there wasn’t a lot more good stuff coming down the pike. So far everything that’s recently come out of the Sony…
