Ohhh, Look…’X-Men: First Class’ Official Photos

Yesterday the web was a buzz over the casting of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. While it wasn’t anything that great (I think Hardy is awesome but not impresses with Hathaway) the other comic related bit was this suspicious X-Men photo: Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Zoe Kravitz (Angel Salvadore), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier)

Ohhh, Look…Fan-Made "For Your Oscar Consideration" Poster

This goes out to all you fans of Daft Punk. More specifically those of you who LOVE their music from TRON Legacy. While it was at time the score was so much more exciting than the film, Daft Punk knocked this right out of the park. Apparently I’m not the only one who thought highly of it as an artist at Deviant Art has created this awesome “For Your Oscar Consideration” poster. Equal parts retro and innovative it’s just graphically stunning. Very awesome and I think calling this “Dope” sums it up nicely:P Check it out below!!

    While You Were Out…1/10 – 1/14

Well, another week has gone by and again I’ve been tied up beyond belief. On the bright side, work is good, life is good and things are awesome. The down side is that I’ve been neglecting G-S-T as well as everyone else’s awesome blogs (read: my entire blogroll) and that makes me sad. Don’t worry dear friends I’ll get back to my rounds soon. So in case you missed it, here’s what happened this week:

    G-S-T Review…Tron Legacy

It still boggles my mind that after nearly 30 years anyone would want to go back to a film that has the dual notoriety of being a flop* as well as a cult classic. Something of a black sheep in the Disney family of films Tron, before now, was relatively unknown to most modern audiences. Yet while the original film was ahead of its time but still lacked much of the technology to really do it right, Disney still thought they had something worth exploring. Enter Joseph Kosinski and a budget of over 300 million (production and marketing) and Disney sought out to make a dazzling film for the ages. Not sure they…

    G-S-T Review…Black Swan

Few film personalities consistently knock it out of the park with each proceeding effort; Darren Aronofsky is one such director/writer. In what is undeniably one of 2010’s best films (I’d go as far as to say the best) Aronofsky once again takes us down a path fraught with heartbreak, disappointment and, to an extent, insanity. However, instead of being as depressing as it may sound, he dazzles us with visuals in a yet another visceral experience. His stories take us to worlds that that few audience members have ever been to but uses common themes that anyone can relate to or understand. It pays to be a bit familiar with his other works to truly…

    James Bond January – ‘Goldfinger’

From the mind of fellow film fan Paul at Paragraph Film Reviews comes this super fun series focusing on every one’s favorite super spy. Yes, known around the world by just three numbers (read: 007) James Bond takes international espionage to new heights. His his cinematic escapades feature a councpia of daring-do as he easily juggles high tech wonder gadgets, brilliant villians, gorgeous women, and with danger at every turn still finds time for a drink and a one liner. Yes the envialbe James Bond knows no bounds. So to kick off my love for 007, I’ll start with my favotire enrty in the seires. No it’s not the one I…

    G-S-T’s Year in Review – 2010

What a year film fans! What. A. Year. Despite everyone (mostly James Cameron) thinking film would be changed forever after the obscene success of his billion dollar blue baby {read: Avatar} we got another typical year of good films and bad. And as far as bad film, insult to injury, some of the bad ones really flopped because of rushed post 3D conversions. While I unfortunately didn’t see everything I wanted to I still had a great time with the added bonus of missing things like Jonah Hex, Skyline and thankfully, every one of these. Whew! A few weeks ago, while prepping for his year end podcast, The Mad Hatter at The Dark of the Matinee asked…

“12 Days of Kurosawa” Wrap Up Review

Hello World, Marc Here: From my family to yours I’d like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all you G-S-T fans!! And for those of you keeping up with our “12 Days of Kurosawa” I’ll say メリークリスマス!! It’s been a wonderful 12 days and I have to say that I now understand the wild popularity behind legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. A master of visual storytelling, what really stands out in each film is the subtlety to cinematography, specifically the way each scene is set up. So, as I now have newly minted respect and admiration for his work, here is a very brief review of the films in my series…
