The Wait for Superman Is Over

Yes friends, the coveted role of Kal-El has gone to one Henry Cavill. So much to the chagrin of Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and countless fan-boys the world over wanting them to reprise their roles, Superman will instead be played by a 27 year old British actor (of “The Tudors” fame previously). Kind of weird coming off the weekend and reading headlines like “The Man of Steel is a Brit!!” right? But hey, stranger things have happened.

While this seems out of the blue, this does come down from the top in an official statement released yesterday:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

For those of you yet to see The Tudors (which Mrs. GoSeeTalk just loves btw), Cavill will be seen later this year playing Greek warrior Theseus in director Tarsem Singh‘s action picture “Immortals,” and opposite Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver in the thriller “The Cold Light of Day.” Give you a good chance to see him in higher profile roles prior to him playing Kal-El.

The only real issue I see so far is that Cavill is a whopping 27 years old…isn’t that too young to play Superman?? I thought they wanted someone older. Then again that’s how old Routh was and everyone seemed to love him in the part (even if the movie wasn’t anything special).

Basically, of all the movie news, a casting decision (even one as big as this) is one of the easiest ways to whip film fans into an unnecessary frenzy. As we’re in the very early stages of this movie, I think everyone should hold their opinions until more info is released. I mean, the kid’s got Zack Snyder and Nolans’s blessing so I think that’s all the convincing I need.

But this is “the Internet” and we are a movie blog so let those opinions fly!! What do you think of the man-boy who will eventually wear the mighty S???

YAY! I’ve been talking about him so much on my blog & Twitter but I’ll always have one more cheer for Henry 😀 As for why cast a Brit for Superman? Well, unless you can find a Kryptonian-born actor that’d suit the role, then why the heck not??

I didn’t watch The Tudors so I only know of him from his role in The Count of Monte Cristo…when he was 14:P

I think he looks the part for now, trust in Nolan and Snyder but I’m not sold yet.
