These days you just don’t get a good looking and eerie old school ghost story. Bu those up for a scare, The Awakening, from the look of it, is more in line with Del Toro’s The Orphanage (or even The Devil’s Backbone) as opposed to the shock and awesome found in something like Insidious. That said, I’m totally on board with the slow boat approach and I’m sort of getting a The Shining vibe but maybe that’s just me. So turn down the lights, turn up the sound and have a look at the trailer thanks to the heads up from First Showing.net.
Rebecca Hall plays the story’s skeptical “ghost hunter’ who has a pension for exposing paranormal hoaxes. In the years shortly after WWI she has been commissioned to investigate young boy’s boarding school where reports are that the students are being tormented by a ghost. In short it gets real when she learns the events unfolding are more that just fun and games. Directed by Nick Murphy, The Awakening is currently scheduled for theatrical release in Ireland this Fall on November 11, 2011 (no dates have been released for the U.S.). If any of you Go,See,Talk fans across the pond feel like checking this out we’d love to hear your thoughts.
For those of you stateside, tell me. How does this look to you all? Anyone willing to give this throwback horror film a go??

Movie Treasures By Brenda
Looks like a movie I would enjoy; wonder how long before it will land in North America.
