Sweet Trailer…'Sucker Punch'

Well the more I hear and see about Comic-Con 10, the more bummed that I was unable to attend. But thanks to absolutely great coverage by sites like First Showing (G-S-T’s top choice for up to the minute movie info) and Screen Rant (a site equally just as good) it’s just like being there…only way cheaper:P So if you haven’t been keeping up this and other anticipated films like it, behold, we simple people’s first look at Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch

There sure is a lot going on in the trailer, not sure how that cornucopia of great visuals will play out on screen in a cohesive story. But as far as the story itself goes, here’s a little exposition to help you (and me) understand what the hell we just saw:

A young girl is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.

Hmm, well I guess “alternative reality” explains the dragon but consider my interest sufficiently peaked…but I’m still sure. I have supreme faith in Snyder but with teaser they can make anything look good (cough, Ninja Assassin, cough). Sucker Punch is set for release on March 25th 2011. That’s still a bit away but with footage like that this early, I’ve got high hopes. How about the rest of you, think Snyder’s got another hit on his hands??

Hey Marc, I saw this last nite, it’s kinda like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow meets Reign of Fire meets Moulin Rouge, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Snyder’s genius at making trailers, his use of visual and music is superb. I also like his previous hits (300 and Watchmen) so I’m intrigued. We’ll wait and see what the reviews say on this one.

Visually, this looks quite amazing. Looking forward to learn more about this down the road.

@Ruth…You pretty much called out everything I was thinking…except for the Moulin Rouge. I doubt those glimpses of a stage will be a significant musical number…but who knows right:P

@Castor…You and me both. If The Watchmen is any indication, this should be one for the ages:)

This is rating up there with some of the best trailers I’ve ever seen. With such a diverse array of scenery, fantasy, characters and costumes, this trailer can be all over the map and still be talking about a single film. It’s almost so good that I ought to be worried that the film can’t top it, but with Zack Snyder at the helm, I don’t have to be nervous.

I like Ruth’s amalgam, but I’m seeing it as Brazil meets 12 Monkeys meets The Wall meets Girl, Interrupted.

BTW – There is nothing sexier than a squad of ladies marching in tactical formation with weapons at the ready… Gets me quivering in all my good places.
