Sweet Trailer…'The Lady'

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen something from Luc Besson that looked this good! The Lady is a film adaptation chronicling the life of pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi and the academic and writer Michael Aris. It’s a true story of love set against political turmoil that really really looks like a stunner with tons of emotional weight behind it. Have a look for yourselves…

The Lady stars Michelle Yeoh (as real-life Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi) and I’m glad to see her taking a role that’s against type. I’ve been saying it for years that sure she can high kick but she can also act and it’s great to see her in something with stature. Liken her to Karen Allen with her graceful yet solid delivery, I’m eager to see this. There’s enough intensity to satisfy all us wanting Besson fanboys with what looks like lots heart, but we’ll see right? Set for a relase date in France this Fall on November 30th 2011, no news when it will hit stateside but we’ll keep you posted.

What do you think? Anyone not just wowed by this??

I don’t know, it seems like the movie is painted in broad strokes and doesn’t feel all that subtle. “Put a lot of pressure on that woman” what??!? 🙂

A biopic is always tricky. Lots of people use that ‘broad strokes’ argument about Machine Gun Preacher as well which is based on a true story. But I like Michelle Yeoh enough to check this out, plus it’s a Luc Besson movie? Imagine that.

Yeah, actual/historical figure aside I’m more intrigued to see how Besson handles this story. Sure seems like a film that would be up Edward Zwick’s alley if you ask me.
