Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis hit theaters last month and as far as biopics go, it was one for the ages. In fact, you can’t have a film about “The King” without going over-the-top theatrically, stylistically or musically. It’s one of the best films we’ve seen in a while. Moreover, it should continue to prove that going back to the theater is anything but mundane – it is an event! The film finds Luhrmann reuniting with long time-collaborator, Elliot Wheeler, to help bring Elvis Aaron Presley’s music to the modern masses. After developing a shorthand with Luhrmann on The Great Gatsby and The Get Down, Wheeler returns with a unique dual role as both composer and executive…

Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic literary portrait of the Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby, they can simply head to the multiplex to have all of its themes and meanings pounded into their skulls for two hours courtesy of Baz Luhrmann. On the surface, which happens to be the only layer his adaptation concerns itself with, Luhrmann has taken everything about Fitzgerald’s novel and distilled it down to its most fundamental truths, and transposed those truths onto film in the most recklessly over-the-top ways possible. Here, disdain for excess is conveyed with the utmost of excesses and…

Sweet Trailer…'The Great Gatsby'
Baz Luhrmann’s latest adaptation of a literary classic comes in the form of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. We all know that Luhrman is comfortable with a big budget/ensemble cast but this looks to put his previous efforts to shame. Grabbing an all-star cast we’ll see Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton offer their talents to this rather splendid looking period piece (which is in 3D for some reason). It didn’t sound too appealing at first but get a load of this trailer… Fans of The Great Gatsby should feel at ease with Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) at the helm. Not only is he directing…
