In the prequel to Pete Docter’s monster hit (yes, pun very much intended) Monsters, Inc. this new story takes us back to the beginning, to a time before Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan were the very best of friends. It’s an interesting decision to take to expand on the mythology of this world but also one of the smartest moves the studio could have made. Going the prequel route (the first for Pixar) allows them to expand on and explore more of the film’s most lovable characters. Now for a studio devoted to and known for innovation and originality to take a step back might seem odd or like they’ve…

G-S-T Review…Monsters University
Disney Pixar is the best combination since peanut butter and jelly. Disney revolutionized animated film and continues today as a marketing juggernaut. Pixar came along and took the animation world by storm, making other studios marvel at the stunning quality they delivered on screen. Together they have produced billions in revenue. That being said, Disney Pixar has stumbled a bit with the last couple of films not living up to audience and critic expectations. Regardless of what this review says, families will flock to this film and children will beg their parents to buy Monsters University merchandise. Does Monsters University measure up to Monsters, Inc., or does it fall short? …

We also got a small batch of see hi-rez images and posters to oogle over and things continually look to be shaping up nicely for this prequel to Pete Docter’s monster hit (pun intended!). Well continuing their world building, by way of the fun viral website that was launched a few months back, today we get a very special message from the Dean of Monsters University. Sweet UK Trailer…'Monsters University'
Well, this is a pleasant early-morning, post-blizzard (for you North Easterners!) treat. I’m still not sold on a return trip to the Monsters, Inc. universe, but it’s hard for me to watch the full trailer for Pixar’s prequel to that picture, the inventively titled Monsters University, without cracking a partial smile. But don’t take my word for it– have a look yourself and see what you think of the animation giant’s latest: Unlike the promo material we’ve seen for the film in the last few months or so, this trailer introduces the vague outlines of plot to the project. Given that we already know how things turn out between Sully…

G-S-T Review…Parental Guidance
As we turn the page from one year to another and one decade to the next, new and different styles of film making trends emerge. The 80’s are forever cemented in history with blockbuster hits from Steven Spielberg and a plethora of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone action flicks. In the 90’s we transitioned to Die Hard and more empathetic characters. As we rolled into the new millennium technology began growing exponentially and so did the use of CG. Another trend that has emerged over the past decade is over-the-top comedy. With every movie it seems the bar is set even higher for shock factor. Movies have gotten to the…

You Didn't Hand In Your Term Paper Wazowski…'Monsters University' Teaser Posters
Pixar and director Pete Docter‘s wonderful film Monsters, Inc. scared up lots of laughs and smiles with its heart-warming story back in 2001. While the studio has had success with sequels, this charming film had an ending that no one in their right mind would mess with. So what’s an animation powerhouse like Pixar to do? Well they decided to take this story back a little bit. In this “prequel”, the film will give us a a look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of Fear — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends. And these two teaser posters (and teaser trailer) give us a hint of what…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Nora Ephron Films
For our second installment of posts dedicated to great directors, we’ve chosen to highlight the top five films from the late Nora Ephron. Ephron, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2006 and passed away earlier this summer at the age of 71, was a force of nature. Not only did she bring us classic stories like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, she was also an accomplished journalist, essayist, playwright, producer, director and novelist. So while we want to highlight her work as a director, arguably one of the best female directors of our time, her accomplishments as a writer in so many forms should be highly noted…

Full List Of Nominees For The 84th Annual Academy Awards Released
As far as awards go, the Academy Awards is the Super Bowl of the film/entertainment world recognizing (and snubbing) the very best of what the previous calendar year had to offer. In what some consider a stellar year for films there are some crowd pleasing favorites which have made such an impact and have kept strong buzz going throughout all of 2011. When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards this morning, it was no surprise who some of the front-runners would be. Pulling in some big nominations were The Descendants, The Artist and Hugo. But little engines that could like…
