Official Synopsis Revealed for 'Kick-Ass 2'

In 2010, Kick-Ass had a pretty favorable cinematic run. Thanks to Matthew Vaughn‘s stylized direction and the likable cast, it successfully blended a Spider-Man level origin story with the boundary pushing content from the comic that inspired it. While I still think the film feels a little flat (despite Cage killing it as Big Daddy and Chloë Moretz giving one hell of a performance) things look more full-bodied as the returning cast and newcomers already make this sound like a home run. For those curious about what’s in store for our off-kilter heroes, read the official synopsis below: Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit:…

    First Official Teaser for 'Carrie'

MGM’s remake of Brian De Palma’s classic teen horror film, Carrie, is a very, very real thing, and the release of the first official trailer for the project solidifies that fact. We’ve seen posters and production stills featuring star Chloë Grace Moretz in what’s clearly the film’s last act; maybe unsurprisingly, the teaser, seen below, continues holding the party line by displaying Ms. Moretz in full crimson-soaked attire. Is there no other way to sell this picture than to point to its finale? If anything, the footage appears to confirm the murmurings that Kimberly Peirce intends to keep the film closer to Stephen King’s original story; while it’s a short clip, it’s…

    G-S-T Review…Dark Shadows

A common fact easily overlooked: television isn’t the same medium as film. As modes of visual storytelling, they may bear a family resemblance, but they represent long-form versus short-form approaches to narrative. In short, the rules, as well as the limitations and advantages, differ greatly for both. A television show has room to breathe and stretch its legs by its very nature, for example, while a movie is more contained by its own. Conflating the two, then, is a mistake, and one which Tim Burton makes repeatedly throughout Dark Shadows, his interpretation of the identically-titled 1960s/70s televised Gothic soap opera; the result is so overstuffed and hopelessly rushed that there’s…

    “The CineMagic 8-Ball” – In Theaters 5/11/12

When so many movies are released each weekend and trailers often seem better than the movie itself, what should one do? In this precarious situation, we consult the The CineMagic 8-Ball (TM) to help us see through the nebulous marketing haze. Doing so just might save us all a disheartening trip to the cinema and spare us unnecessarily springing for $7 popcorn. See what the 8-Ball says about this week’s releases… Annd since everyone in the world is probably planning to see The Avengers, here are some alternatives if you didn’t pre-order your tickets and can’t get into Joss Whedon’s comic book blockbuster this weekend. ——————————————————————————————————————————————- DARK SHADOWS An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free…

    G-S-T Review…Kick-Ass

Not being very familiar with Kick-Ass, I was excited because of how the trailers looked and felt, but more importantly, the fact that this is directed by long time Guy Ritchie collaborator, Matthew Vaughn. So, knowing little to nothing about the “source material” I walked into the theater hoping for a ride as sweet as Red Mist‘s Mustang. In short, the movie didn’t live up to the trailers but was still an enjoyable time. PREMISE: Without any super powers to be found (or injected by radio-active insects) Dave Lizewski, after reading a few too many comic books, decides to become a real life superhero. Taking a fair amounts of knocks in his newfound profession…
