Well, this is a pleasant early-morning, post-blizzard (for you North Easterners!) treat. I’m still not sold on a return trip to the Monsters, Inc. universe, but it’s hard for me to watch the full trailer for Pixar’s prequel to that picture, the inventively titled Monsters University, without cracking a partial smile. But don’t take my word for it– have a look yourself and see what you think of the animation giant’s latest: Unlike the promo material we’ve seen for the film in the last few months or so, this trailer introduces the vague outlines of plot to the project. Given that we already know how things turn out between Sully…

Ohhh, Look…John Kahrs' Oscar-Nominated Animated Short 'Paperman' On-Line NOW!!
Apon seeing it for the first time last September, when it was shown at Fantastic Fest of all places, I became a HUGE fan of John Kahrs’ animated short film Paperman. It’s an incredibly sweet, heart-warming short and a throw back to the days of classic Disney animation. Yet what makes Kahrs’ short so unique is that it’s the first project to use this groundbreaking new computer technology. Likened, roughly to rotoscoping, the animators are able to wrap a 2D image/sketch around a dynamic 3D frame giving each pencil stroke and texture incredible depth and a free flowing look. In short, lines stretch and bend organically retaining the character of the animator’s…

The cinematic universe that lives following those epic words A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far Far Away has grown by leaps an bounds since 1977. But no other event in the history of Star Wars has shaken more ground than the new that has just broke today (not even Greedo shooting first). Take a minute to let the following sink in…J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode VII…Yes you read that right. If you’re feeling queasy, that’s OK. It is a massive amount of information to process in one sitting. The quest for a director of Ep VII is over but this news now asks more questions than…

Off the Shelf…’The Muppet Christmas Carol’
Who doesn’t just love the Muppets? With delivery and material geared for kids and adults they have such universal appeal exemplified by they fact that they’re so honest direct and friendly. The Muppet movies are known for their original humor and lovable characters but The Muppet Christmas Carol treads new ground though a lot of the tones and structure here just seem an odd fit. The film is an important distinctive film in the Henson legacy for reasons outside of the on-screen antics. First off, it is the company’s first outright adaptation. Second, and more importantly, it’s the first Muppet film following the passing if the legendary Muppet founder Jim Henson. As such this adaptation, very…

Off the Shelf…’The Odd Life of Timothy Green’
If you stop and think about the impact that Disney has had on all of our lives, it’s simply staggering. It would be almost impossible to find someone you know who has never seen a Disney film or TV show. Disney’s formula for success is often imitated, but there is only one Disney. With The Odd Life of Timothy Green, you have a Mary Poppins tale of sorts. You understand it’s a Disney family film and you suspend disbelief, just long enough to allow yourself to get sucked into the movie. You put the Disney name on a film and it’s almost guaranteed to make a profit. But, does Odd Life this compare to the…

Michael Arndt "Likely" On Board To Pen 'Star Wars: Episode VII' – UPDATED
With the ink of the Disney/LucasFilm contract dry and one of the the biggest mergers in the history of ever now old news, there’s only one direction for Star Wars to go from here; to infinity and beyond (that’s right we’re throwing in Disney references anyplace we can). Beyond the facts surrounding the massive buyout, the best news to come of all this, so far at least, is that Episode VII is happening. As such the Mouse House is now full steam ahead to put Ep VII in theaters by 2015. Yes last week went by pretty fast so pinch yourself if you need to, you’re not dreaming. To further set things…

G-S-T Review…Wreck-It Ralph
Should you manage to see Wreck-It Ralph blind and with no knowledge of its source of origination, you might be inclined to credit the film to Pixar. And while that wouldn’t be an unreasonable guess, you’d be wrong. Ralph has all the bearings of Pixar at its finest, yet Rich Moore’s first feature length effort comes to us from none other than the Mouse House itself. Arriving six months after the release of Brave, Ralph gives weight to the theory that both animation studios are just blurring together more and more in the wake of Pixar’s acquisition by Disney in 2006. If that strikes anyone as a bad sign for creativity, then the news that Wreck-It Ralph happens to…
