G-S-T Review…Drafthouse Films’ The Keeping Room

Simply stated in the title cards of Daniel Barber‘s bleak and understated narrative, “War is cruelty“. And at the start of his film, Barber spends little time getting to the needless and hateful violence of people all but removed from morals, and the gravity of their actions. Hardships and loneliness for women abound, and The Keeping Room is but a small sampling of how vulnerable wives, daughters, and the like can be with a war on. Yet these women are hard and driven when their lives are at stake. There will always be pain and misery on the battlefield, but the same hardships can spill over and affect those left to…

    Sweet Trailer…'Sabotage'

After two rather luke-warm receptions at the box office (well we quite liked The Last Stand) Arnold Schwarzenegger is back for his third full headlining post-Governator outing and man does this high-octane shoot-em-up look to finally deliver the goods. Originally titled “Ten”, David Ayer’s action thriller Sabotage puts an macho spin on Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians as it as follows an elite DEA task force who are taken out, one at a time, after they successfully rip off a drug cartel safe house. Directed by David Ayer (End of Watch) and written by Skip Woods, Schwarzenegger leads this elite task force that goes after the world’s deadliest drug cartels.…

    G-S-T Review…Wrath of the Titans

I, like Jonathan Liebesman’s Wrath of the Titans, am wracked with indecision. On the one hand I want to go to bat for the film on the virtues of its better elements– excellent eye candy, including, but not limited to, some eye-popping creature design– but Wrath’s tonal incongruity holds me back. There’s a place in the Hollywood ecosphere for fantastical sword and sandal films boasting either serious or silly makes, but Wrath can’t decide which of the two models it wants to follow and ends up existing as an unsatisfying halfway point between them; it’s silly, but not silly enough. It’s epic, but it’s not epic enough. If the film needs anything, it’s direction,…

    G-S-T Review…Man On A Ledge

Editor’s Note: Go,See,Talk presents this review of Man On A Ledge from our guest contributing writer Bill Graham. Have a look at what he had to say about the Sam Worthington led crime thriller and offer your thoughts below. A talented cast does not always equal out to a quality film. While Sam Worthington defiantly clings to the side of a building with threats of suicide, his plight to be found innocent is mostly hollow. Sometimes the withholding of information from an audience can have a great payoff. Then there is Man On A Ledge. Director Asger Leth seems content to hold most of his cards just out of the audience’s reach. That…
