In the prequel to Pete Docter’s monster hit (yes, pun very much intended) Monsters, Inc. this new story takes us back to the beginning, to a time before Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan were the very best of friends. It’s an interesting decision to take to expand on the mythology of this world but also one of the smartest moves the studio could have made. Going the prequel route (the first for Pixar) allows them to expand on and explore more of the film’s most lovable characters. Now for a studio devoted to and known for innovation and originality to take a step back might seem odd or like they’ve…

G-S-T Review…Monsters University
Disney Pixar is the best combination since peanut butter and jelly. Disney revolutionized animated film and continues today as a marketing juggernaut. Pixar came along and took the animation world by storm, making other studios marvel at the stunning quality they delivered on screen. Together they have produced billions in revenue. That being said, Disney Pixar has stumbled a bit with the last couple of films not living up to audience and critic expectations. Regardless of what this review says, families will flock to this film and children will beg their parents to buy Monsters University merchandise. Does Monsters University measure up to Monsters, Inc., or does it fall short? …

G-S-T Review…The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Is there anything more depressing than the sight of a star being devoured by their own persona? The Incredible Burt Wonderstone spends an hour and forty minutes shamelessly cannibalizing Steve Carell’s Michael Scott shtick, even though it’s been two years since he left The Office; apparently, nobody bothered informing director Don Scardino that the puffed-up incompetent buffoon act grew stale before 2011. The real disgrace here is that Carell really does know how to perform, even if movies like Date Night and Dinner For Schmucks give the opposite impression by building themselves around his most overwrought and inorganic routine- just like Burt Wonderstone does for a hundred shapeless, aimless minutes. Here, Carell plays the titular…

Well they decided to take this story back a little bit. In this “prequel”, the film will give us a a look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of Fear — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends. And these two teaser posters (and teaser trailer) give us a hint of what…

G-S-T Review…Hotel Transylvania
These days all major studios have an animation department that competes in the realm of animated films. While Disney/Pixar dominates the animated film scene, what about the other studios that are bringing different types of animated films to the table? Not everyone wants to see the same Disney boilerplate template over and over again; they want some variety. Some studios have made it a point to push the boundaries of a PG rated animated film, poking fun at Disney classics and children’s tales. Sony Pictures Animation does not go that far, but they certainly have taken their films in another direction. Hotel Transylvania is a film that may have the…
