…to quote the great Huey Lewis. Hello everyone, Marc here. Just a quick note to tell all you G-S-T readers out there that I’ll be traveling for business over the next week or so. That said, there will be no new posts for a little while; sad I know. Although I do have one or two posts set to auto-publish, so fret not. I couldn’t possibly leave you for that length of time without some of my wit, charm and opinions:P Also, this is just a reminder for anyone still wanting to or already participating in the upcoming “Films That Defined Us” multi-blog-a-thon (click here or the image above for more…

Off the Shelf…'I Heart Huckabees'
I Heart Huckabees is a odd-ball movie to say the least. With scenes that end just as abruptly as they begin the film is filled with heavy off-kilter humor. Simply stated, the comedy here is both unexpectedly subtle and rampantly uproarious. Certain scenes just amaze you as they were so off the wall that actually worked and mostly because you didn’t see it coming. Admittedly, it may be too out there and I agree it’s not for everyone. It is slow at times but Huckabees is still a film you can be happy to have seen just because the characters are so damn funny.

Random Film Thought of the Day…07.29.10
News hit recently of Daniel Craig being cast for the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Part of me said, “hell yes!“, while another part of me was lost for words. At first I thought this was a good move and would be glad to see Craig in something new and different since the Bond series is on perpetual hold. But the more I think about this I’m not wild about it. I don’t see the point of casting someone so high profile when their character is far from the main focus of the film. While I admit I have only seen the first film, I honestly don’t know…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Michael Keaton Roles
Whenever I hear the name Michael Keaton, I immediately think of 3 things: Batman, Beetlejuice, and Clean and Sober. Three completely different roles but three extremely complex roles…especially when you think of his humble beginnings as a stand-up comic. You won’t see Adam Sandler playing a super-hero (let’s just hope not). You won’t find Jerry Seinfeld playing a “bio-exorcist” and you won’t hear of Ray Romano playing the dramatic lead as a recovering drug addict. So it’s with a very varied resume that Keaton finds himself spanning a career that, although a little slow as of late, will probably never die. And I’d bet on that…especially when you do work for…

Sweet Trailer…’DC Universe Online’
OK this isn’t a movie trailer but, damn this is impressive and packs one hell of a punch. This is the trailer for the upcoming game DC Universe Online and as a cinematic trailer (read not game play) it shows such potential for DC if they ever wanted to do something better than the Justice League Cartoons. So have a look and let me know if you like it as much as I do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lGTfK4PmPw I’ve always been more of a Marvel fan myself but with stuff like this (add to it the great direction Nolan has taken Batman) DC has certainly been getting my attention more and more. Also their story…

Sweet Trailer…'Sucker Punch'
Well the more I hear and see about Comic-Con 10, the more bummed that I was unable to attend. But thanks to absolutely great coverage by sites like First Showing (G-S-T’s top choice for up to the minute movie info) and Screen Rant (a site equally just as good) it’s just like being there…only way cheaper:P So if you haven’t been keeping up this and other anticipated films like it, behold, we simple people’s first look at Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch… There sure is a lot going on in the trailer, not sure how that cornucopia of great visuals will play out on screen in a cohesive story. But as far as the story…

Off the Shelf…’My Favorite Wife’
Delightfully funny, the romantic film My Favorite Wife stars truly great screen legends Cary Grant and Irene Dunne who really powerthis so-so story home. They do it with such charm that it really does makes this film, by virtue of their talents, a classic. It’s fanciful and lighthearted though the plot really does make light of some heavy material involving but not limited to: bigamy, divorce, death of a spouse, marital infidelity and best of all, its tied together in a big Hollywood bow. Now this movie is replete with humor and does offer modern audiences a lot of laughs. It has its weak moments but this is a vehicle where Grant and…

Jack Sparrow’s Comic-Con Announcement
There are a handful of sequels (and threequels) I can recall which have had completely unflattering efforts that are nothing short of insulting to some fans. Case in point: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. All that great build-up with 2 awesome films and what did we get? Just an awful, awful mess. As to keep hope alive and whet the die hard fans’ appetites, the end of the film was like a precursor of things to come where they hinted at yet another grand adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow. But after an ending like that, who really cared? That film put me off the series and that’s been my firm…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Movies Better Enjoyed On ‘MUTE’
You know, as the old saying goes, you just “can’t please all the people all of the time”. Well as film fans, it seems that no matter what goes into a film we all have something to gripe about. It could be dialogue, a casting decision, the story line, music, the director and so on, but there’s bound to be one element keeping us from liking every film. So I’ve comprised a rather personal and unique topic to post on the site. The list below highlights the 5 films I love to look at but, as you’ll find out because of one reason or another, I am not entirely fond…

Sweet Trailer…'The Company Men'
Here’s a movie I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. Previously we posted the teaser (well teaser as in it was sapmle footage used to find a distributor) but even then it looked pretty awesome. So now that the official trailer is here (and the Weinstein Company has picked it up) this will be released in select theaters this Fall. Have a watch; slight heart-warming hokiness and bad accents abound but it looks good to me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPohmhNFwi4 The Company Men is a John Wells film about ‘corporate downsizing’ where Chris Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Affleck play 3 such downsized employees. Affleck’s character looses his job and gets…
