Once in a while you find an underrated gem of a film starring one of your favorite actors. As a Sam Rockwell fan, this just isn’t one of them. I toyed with the idea of writing this post since this movie nearly bored me to tears. However you can’t be a film fan and just write about good movie, right? So we are where we are and as a Sam Rockwell fan I still think he’s an incredible actor. Further my opinion of him hasn’t changed even after sitting thorough this less than flattering film.

Latest Cinematic Meme…"15 Directors"
Hello World, Marc Here: Peter, the wise cinematic proprietor of Magic Lantern Film Blog named me in this fun and yet challenging meme titled “15 Directors”. Here I am charged with naming 15 directors who have help shape the way I look at motion pictures. Fun because like our Films That Defined Us post I can name a bunch of directors who made the films I love. Challenging because I have to come up with some entries on this list that will make people think I’m as refined and cool as Peter. Well then, the game is on my friend. Let’s get to it shall we?? While I think it’s impossible…

G-S-T Top 10 – Flicks for Halloween
While the “Horror genre” is not my cup of tea, there are some films that I really enjoy watching. They are well done and really scare the crap out of me which is just what you’d want from a Halloween flick right? It’s not that I like horror films but each of these on this list have a quality content which puts them (severed) “head and shoulders” above the predictable, stereotypical and disposable slasher flicks. This time of year, I enjoy watching these films to get me in the Halloween mood. So to get us in the spirit for All Hallow’s Eve, I thought share my suggestions (in no particular…

FourScore Match-Up #6: “Once Upon A Time In The West”
Much like one of our earlier FourScores, today’s match-up focuses on the gunslingers who helped tame the West. Each film is is chock full of boots, spurs horse and more, fantastic shootouts and of course simply stunning scores to drive it all home. But only one will take the tile of the Wildest. Who will it be? Is it the OK Corral’s fearsome foursome, the tale of the outlaw/bored king Ben Wade, a man named “Bluebonnet” just trying to make a living, or the anonymous man named “Joe“?? Find out after the jump…

Sweet Trailer…’Burke & Hare’
Today’s trailer comes as a bit of a surprise to me. A new film from John Landis you say?? OK, go on…Well John Landis (Animal House) is directing Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, all things awesome) and Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) in the nearly true story of two 19th century grave robbers Burke and Hare. The film follows the leads as they find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school. We heard about this last year but it’s been pretty quiet since then. I’m actually getting a good feeling from this and I am eager to see how Pegg and Serkis play off each other. So…

Off the Netfilx Queue…’OSS 117: Lost In Rio’
While I adore the first film OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies it really pains me to say that I just did not like this film. OSS 117: Lost in Rio is the follow up to the smash hit Cairo: Nest of Spies and as it is perhaps the best spoof on the 007 series, this apple falls very very far from the tree. In what is nothing more than a series of bad jokes, awkward and long sequences Lost in Rio focused on all the wrong elements and ignoring story was the first in a long line of offenses.

Friday Odds and Ends…
Hello World, Marc Here: Today is Friday and while there’s movie news out there that’s probably worth talking about I have something that deserves just a bit more fanfare. Tomorrow is G-S-T co-founder Rob’s birthday but since it’s already tomorrow in Japan (read: where he lives), that means he celebrates it today. For him it’s kind of like the convenience of time traveling without the cumbersome flux capacitor (hence the BTTF image in the header). So feel free to send him well wishes by means of comments, including but not limited to lottery ticket numbers because, due to his time advantage, he can tell us if they were in fact winning…
