Well friends, it’s time again for another installment of Groovers & Mobsetrs Presents. Today we are going to look at the films that make this time of year all the more enjoyable. So fire up your DVD player (or Blu Ray player for those of you who’ve made the jump) and prepare yourself for scares, chills and thrills. On behalf of Fandango Groovers and Movie Mobsters G-S-T looks at one definitive Halloween film and examines why it gives us the willies. Willies? No, I’ll rephrase that…gives us effen nightmares. Last Minute Spooks: G-S-T Plays Catch Up on Horror Films
Much like others bloggers out there we at G-S-T are owning up to having huge gaps in our Horror vernacular. Well I guess having a blog means we need to get our act together and become well-versed in all avenues of film. So as sort of a companion piece to our 10 Flicks for Halloween, here’s our thoughts on 10 frightening films we’ve never seen before now. So with Halloween right around the corner was this exercise worth 20 hours of my life? Do these titles have any value or live up to the hype? Well I guess you’ll just have to read and find out…

Film Community Potluck Series: ‘Outbreak’
Next up in our Film Community Potluck series we have this little “scare you with science” flick from the 90’s. In a world where terrorism, unemployment and terrible economy abound, sometimes its what you can’t see that really give you chills. So just before Halloween here’s another flick (recommended by MoviesCrunch). Great, like there’s not enough to be scared of these days. Wolfgang Peterson’s big budget, star studded paranoia film does for disease what Spielberg did for sharks. Well, not to that extent but it certainly makes a case for getting a flu shot at the very least.

The G-S-T 500…Vroom, Vroom
Well friends, we’ve done it!! We have hit a milestone which makes me so very happy I wanted to share it with you. Yes, we have reached our 500th post and man that feels pretty good to say. Plus this momentous occasion is made all the more special as it comes right on the heels of G-S-T making our 6th trip to the IMDb Hit List with this post. Talk about a way to end the week! It’s been a blast watching movies and then chatting them up with all of our readers and friends. One thing is for sure we wouldn’t have made it this far if it weren’t…

FourScore Match-Up #7: "Batteries Not Included"
Today we’ve got robots, robots everywhere; good, bad, big, small, made of new parts and spare parts. Each film features four equally impressive scores about peace, love, family and even all out war. Quite a mixed bag of bolts, wouldn’t you say? In true Rock’em Sock’em format we pit these big guys (and not so big guys) up against one another. Leave it to great composers to craft such amazing scores to make you feel emotional for walking trash cans. So which of these can take a licking and keep on ticking?? Is the story of a boy and his Giant, How about that gorgeous CG moral lesson touting we can…

Watch the First 5 Minutes of Dreamworks Animation's "Megamind"
Dreamworks Animation has been constantly improving and due to the amazing success of How to Train Your Dragon, they look to be right on the heels of Pixar. But who are we kidding? They’ll never catch up to Pixar but in my book they do get huge points for trying. In fact they are trying something new and I like the idea. To get audiences more excited about their upcoming feature, the video below offers interested movie goers a chance to watch the first 5 minutes of Megamind FOR FREE:) So have a look and see if the “free 5 minutes” is worth your hard earned 10 bucks in the theater… The supervillain…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…’Paul’
Seems like ages ago we heard about the upcoming and awesome sounding Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film Paul. Aside from an obscure “set shot” here and there, nothing had surfaced that made any big waves. Well, good news everyone, after all this time we have a teaser trailer!! Be advised, it’s just a teaser so this may not be entirely what the movie will look like. Regardless, Pegg and Frost look to be just as funny and charismatic as in their previous films so have a look and let me know what you think. Aside from the video quality of the teaser looking poor, I don’t think this looks to be…

Film Community Potluck Series: 'Terribly Happy'
Castor and Red at Anomalous Material have come up with an idea that is so brilliant and yet simple that I wish I had thought of it:) Taking the “book club” model and turning it into a “Netflix Recommendation Series”, all participants suggest a film then a Potluck drawing decides who watches what. A week later we reconvene to share our findings. See, told you it was simple. So for now my reviews of this week’s Potluck (FYI this series will be lumped into to my Off the Shelf Reviews thought these will be shorter). Set in Denmark, Copenhagen cop Robert (Jakob Cedergren) winds up in the remote and derelict town of Skarrild.…

Off the Shelf…'Cloverfield'
When J.J. Abrams and his son went to Japan he was amazed how many stores still had Godzilla merchandise for sale. Really J.J.? You had to go there to know that;) Well after his trip he intended to make a Godzilla for American audiences. I don’t think he totally succeeded but he definitely didn’t fail either. Cloverfield is really a fantastic film that utilizes “shaky cam” in a way that stands apart from the trite and overdone realtime/mockumentary films of the last 10 years. This style worked so well that it made an already good movie that much better.

Nic Cage & Brett Ratner Should Be Stranded On An Island Somewhere…
Really, what purpose do Nicolas Cage films serve other than a chance for him to showcase his latest wig/hair do?? I admit I love The Rock and actually like the first National Treasure however those are two high points among a resume of films where I personally find little else appealing. In my eyes, he offers nothing of value to any film and the crazy antics he’s know for just don’t fly in film these days. I will give him that he was pretty damn good in Bad Lieutenant and his small role in Kick Ass was unexpectedly hysterical but face it. You won’t stay in the Yankee’s starting line up…
