Yes friends, the coveted role of Kal-El has gone to one Henry Cavill. So much to the chagrin of Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and countless fan-boys the world over wanting them to reprise their roles, Superman will instead be played by a 27 year old British actor (of “The Tudors” fame previously). Kind of weird coming off the weekend and reading headlines like “The Man of Steel is a Brit!!” right? But hey, stranger things have happened. While this seems out of the blue, this does come down from the top in an official statement released yesterday: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and…

The Hollywood Fantasy Draft II – "Broken Ties”
Last year Anomalous Material created the Hollywood Fantasy Draft. Man it was so much fun to play Studio Exec for a week or two. Sitting there, waiting, watching, hoping you’d get your top picks (or not) and biting your nails the whole time. Then when you got your choices of director and actors you start out to write the story for them to star in. In the past month or so all participants have been using their awesome picks in very intriguing roles and premises. I haven’t gotten around to them all but I think everyone has fared better in this second run through. Below is the story I came up with…

James Bond January – ’Casino Royale’
The last of our entries in the James Bond January series, we’re ending with perhaps my second favorite Bond film. Here we find a young James finding his spy legs as the ink on his newly printed 007 business cards is still drying. In what is essentially an “origin story” (big trend in American cinema this past decade), a cocky Bond struggles on his first real mission to find the balance between the personal gains and his love of country. Moreover, he begins to sort out whether or not to heed his own moral compass or to carry out orders as MI6 would have him do. So, as this is our…

Ohhh, Look…'Tron: Legacy' and 'Black Swan' VFX Featurettes
2010 was a big year for Visual Effects. Films like Inception have had effects work (both practical and CG) seamlessly woven into the film which created just jaw dropping and memorable sequences. While Inception has deservingly received an Oscar nominated for it’s achievements, other visually striking films (like the two in our header) have struck out. From Oscars.org, here is the official list of SFX nominees:

The 83rd Academy Awards – Official Nominees Announced
Last week the nominees for the 64th Annual BAFTAs were released and now we have the nominees for the Academy Awards and the Oscars. I do adore this time of year because awards season is always so much fun isnt’ it? The hype, the anxiety, the snubs, the winners, the losers, the long shot etc. Then there’s the hosts, musical numbers and overall production; it really is the Super Bowl of Motion Pictures Awards (take that Golden Globes). There’s something for everyone, so what’s not to love?:P This year James Franco, up for Best Actor for 127 Hours, is set to co-host the awards show with Anne Hathaway. The 83rd Academy Awards will…

Ohhh, Look…TMNT Fan Film ‘Fight the Foot’
Isn’t it funny how things that were popular 25 years ago are now popular again? Well not that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever completely went away but somethings will never die…especially if you’re a fan of it. Case in point. I found this little TMNT fan film by way of Gordon and the Whale and it is worth your time. Titled “Fight the Foot, this is a gritty short film focusing on (briefly) hot-headed, Sai wielding Raphael. The video finds April O’ Neil in trouble (again) this time with gang members (read: not the FOOT – Boo) who aren’t particularly happy with her recent report on them. They don’t go too…

James Bond January – 'License To Kill'
James Bond January continues with my favorite actor to play him, master thespian Timothy Dalton. James Bond’s wild, dangerous and unique missions are one of the elements that makes his character and the series so popular. Sure there’s gadgets, women and exotic locales which seem so abundant they fall out his pockets on screen but in every hero the human side is sometimes what really attracts us the most. James’ commitment to his mission has always (well mostly) been unwavering. This time his focus is on his friend; long time colleague Felix Leiter. With his “license to kill” revoked (a result of his operating outside of MI6) 007 is on his own and…

G-S-T Review…True Grit
Remaking a John Wayne film is a bona fide ballsy move. The man is an American legend and they certainly broke the mold after they made him. I don’t care who you are, the idea of trying to recast any role made famous by John Wayne (not that he was the greatest actor) is an idea that would make most filmmakers shy away; they even named toilet paper after him for crying out loud.* Well if you want someone to fill the shoes of The Duke, you really can’t go wrong with “The Dude” and in the end it proved a gamble that paid off. The more films the Coen Brothers…

Ohhh, Look…’X-Men: First Class’ Official Photos
Yesterday the web was a buzz over the casting of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. While it wasn’t anything that great (I think Hardy is awesome but not impresses with Hathaway) the other comic related bit was this suspicious X-Men photo: Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Zoe Kravitz (Angel Salvadore), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier)

Ohhh, Look…Fan-Made "For Your Oscar Consideration" Poster
This goes out to all you fans of Daft Punk. More specifically those of you who LOVE their music from TRON Legacy. While it was at time the score was so much more exciting than the film, Daft Punk knocked this right out of the park. Apparently I’m not the only one who thought highly of it as an artist at Deviant Art has created this awesome “For Your Oscar Consideration” poster. Equal parts retro and innovative it’s just graphically stunning. Very awesome and I think calling this “Dope” sums it up nicely:P Check it out below!!
