What a year film fans! What. A. Year. Despite everyone (mostly James Cameron) thinking film would be changed forever after the obscene success of his billion dollar blue baby {read: Avatar} we got another typical year of good films and bad. And as far as bad film, insult to injury, some of the bad ones really flopped because of rushed post 3D conversions. While I unfortunately didn’t see everything I wanted to I still had a great time with the added bonus of missing things like Jonah Hex, Skyline and thankfully, every one of these. Whew! A few weeks ago, while prepping for his year end podcast, The Mad Hatter at The Dark of the Matinee asked…

“12 Days of Kurosawa” Wrap Up Review
Hello World, Marc Here: From my family to yours I’d like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all you G-S-T fans!! And for those of you keeping up with our “12 Days of Kurosawa” I’ll say メリークリスマス!! It’s been a wonderful 12 days and I have to say that I now understand the wild popularity behind legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. A master of visual storytelling, what really stands out in each film is the subtlety to cinematography, specifically the way each scene is set up. So, as I now have newly minted respect and admiration for his work, here is a very brief review of the films in my series…

While You Were Out…12/13 – 12/17
So here we are with another pretty interesting week…In case you missed it (as I did again working pretty hard and also trying to stay on schedule with my 12 Days of Kurosawa) here’s what happened this week:

Ohhh, Look…’Sucker Punch’ Featurette
If you were wow’d by the Sucker Punch trailer that hit earlier this year, then you should enjoy this little featurette about the film. Very brief, just a bit of story exposition but still it doesn’t give too much away. This is kind of like one of those snippets you’d see between movies on HBO, Showtime and the like (plus I like the hearing from Scott Glenn). So for those of you inclined take a look… That’s just what it needed to be…another glimpse of the film without spoiling anything which is good because that’s one thing that keeps ruining films these days. It’s that over awareness of a film…

Go, See, Talk's "12 Days of Kurosawa" Starts Today!!
Hello World, Marc Here: I’ve been meaning to get into some serious Akira Kurosawa for a long time now. Having only seen Seven Samurai, I realize I am waaay light on my Kurosawa. So what better way to finish off the year/holiday season and become better versed in the work of such a legendary filmmaker (who would have turned 100 this year) than to make an event around it? That said I am launching something called the 12 Days of Kurosawa. Starting today I’m going to watch a different film of his (his 12 best) each day which will take me right to December 24th. On Christmas Day, I’ll post…

Do We Over-Hype A Movie Into Disappointment??
TRON: Legacy comes out this Friday and along the path to the theatrical release I have found myself more and more drawn to the film. I’m firmly on the bandwagon but I still find myself very apprehensive about how it will all play out. Amidst the staggering press and publicity we’ve seen a long running (and confusing at times) viral campaign, trailers TV spots, video game tie ins etc. Basically Disney spared no expense and some are starting to believe that this kind of money thrown at a product may be falling blindly into that “too big to fail” mentality. Granted people out there really LOVE Tron but I didn’t…

While You Were Out…12/6 – 12/10
Hello World, Marc Here: I’ve been pretty busy with work and holiday planning, so I have decided to add a new section to Go, See,Talk called “While You Were Out“. In short, it’ll be a round up of sorts, allowing anyone (e.g. Me) who took their finger of the the pulse of the film world to play catch up… So from time to time if I don’t post as often during a week it’s probably because I have a lot on my plate. But don’t worry because I’ll be writing one of these to capture all the best parts of the week in one concise post and much like the…

Sweet Trailer…’The Beaver’
Mel Gibson isn’t the most loved celebrity right now and while he has more bad press and paparazzi problems than Lindsey Lohan, at least he can act himself out of a paper bag. So while he’s got some personal problems and they’re not really helping his public image, there is one golden rule in the entertainment world that applies no matter what: “Make one great film and the public will forgets all wrongdoing“…just look at Robert Downey Jr. That said, enter The Beaver, Mel’s latest fare from director and actor Jodie Foster. If you’ve seen posters or set photos in the past, you’ve probably been confused as to what it’s all about. Well dear friends, allow me…

Ohhh, Look…Neat Minimalist SuperHero/Villain Posters
Slow day here G-S-T fans, I won’t try to hide it. But to help speed us along, I do have something you may sort of enjoy. I found these cool looking Minimalist Superhero posters that are so simple I wish I’d thought of it. Anyway I got them from one of our favorite sites Geekologie (which is a sister site of I Watch Stuff). Neat thing is that these posters not only feature famous comic Super Heroes, but also the Villains. Have a look and see how many you can name. FYI, if you’re coming up short, I put the answers below…but only for the Heroes. What? You want me to…

Now Hear This…The ‘Cinema Code of Conduct’
How many times have you been in a theater trying to enjoy a film and find the less than optimal environment is unrelenting? Yup more than I can count as well. But fear not film fans, you’re not alone in and the UK Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo (the former is a film critic the later a radio presenter) have enacted a Cinema Code of Conduct to keep theaters as distraction free as possible. In what I think is an ever growing issue, an outing at the theater is one event that cinema fans are finding less and less desirable. It’s transitioning from escapism to an exercise in tolerance; namely how many yahoos and idiots can you…
