This Top 10 goes out to all the talented actors out there who just don’t get a fair shake in Hollywood. Sure, many celebrities on this list have made obscene fortunes on their respective cinematic personalities, and are capable thespians. But success does have its downside; namely the inability for the actor in question to get a sufficient role or body of work to help distance them from such a solid, iconic, memorable or even annoying character. Now, to be fair, some of the actors on this list are very talented performers. Yet all their efforts fall by the wayside due to one singular role (or roles) that very nearly define…

Teaser Trailer…'John Carter of Mars'
Director Andrew Stanton has been hard at work on his big screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic sci-fi novel A Princess of Mars and all the while we’ve been wondering how it was shaping up. Recently we’ve seen some concept images (after the jump), a lack luster poster but today we get our first glimpse of the world of John Carter. Admittedly its still rough and has a SyFy feel to it but it looks like it’s headed in the right direction. Well how would I know, I’ve never read the book:P Anyway, for your enjoyment, a look at Andrew Stanton’s live-action epic… Sporting a varied but still very…

Sweet Trailer…'Contagion'
Out of relatively nowhere comes Steven Soderbergh’s sci-fi thriller Contagion. Similar in tone to 28 Days Later (just sans the Zed heads) this film shows what happens to society in the face of fear. Hmmm, I though Soderbergh was done with Hollywood and planning to retire if he “saw one more over the shoulder shot“. Ah well a filmmaker as good as he he can never really leave the game can he? And thank God for that, right? So before you have a look, let me warn you that this trailer is totally spoiler-heavy and gives us more than probably should be reveald in the very first trailer. So choose…

G-S-T Top 10 – Scenes I Could Watch Over and Over and Over (Part II)
Since I had so much fun with our last post about a number of scenes I could watch on never ending repeat, her are 10 more I find equally pleasing. Note: As is the case with most videos on You Tube there is a wide range in both quality and legitimacy to these clips. In other cases, a specific scene I wanted was just nowhere to be found or if it was has been edited by some dope which ultimately diminishes the integrity of the clip and the point I was trying to make. Anyway, here they are…Enjoy!

Sweet Trailer…'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'
On Sunday Yahoo has released the first two official posters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and now we get a full on trailer! This sequel features the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the titular deducing detective and Jude Law as John Watson who really were superb in their respective roles (despite Downey’s spotty accent). But new to this series are the additions of Jared Harris as Professor Moriaty and Noomi Rapace as Sim. Well, enough about that, let’s get to the trailer… Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Rocknrolla) is back directing the sequel to the 2009 hit about quick witted super sleuth Sherlock Holmes. For those of you who…

Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents: “Masters of Film Music”
In 2010 the Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced a series of concerts that would make any film fan smile. Titled “Masters of Film Music“, the DSO will hold concert events featuring some of the most memorable film scores (through a series of performances conducted by the top living film composers themselves) in Dallas’ renowned Meyerson H. Symphony Center. At G-S-T we’re pretty big into film scores so this is right up our alley and we wanted to share this with you. Also we’re going to cover the events so keep an eye out for write-ups, possible interviews and more. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited! Today the DSO has re-issued a press release…

Off the Shelf…'Lost In Translation'
Man, I don’t think I could ever say enough good things about this movie. Lost In Translation is a borderline perfect movie and I don’t think enough credit can be given to Sofia Coppola for crafting this absolutely beautiful modern classic. I hadn’t expected to see this back in 2003 as it was making the rounds at some smaller, more independent theaters. A good friend of mine told me about the very positive buzz it was getting so I took a chance on it and was sooo glad I did. There are so many reasons why I absolutely LOVE this movie and it is one of my all time favorites. While very different…

Sweet Video…Steven Spielberg DGA Interview
Steven Spielberg is more than a household name. He’s an icon, a legend, and nearly a God among men. While he’s known for countless amazing films that capture the hearts and imaginations of people all over the world, at the end of the day he’s just one guy getting to do what he loves. And he’s pretty awesome at his job that’s for sure! Last month Steven was honored by the Directors Guild in what I can only describe as one of the finest interviews I’ve ever seen. Before we get to it, here’s the into from the write-up of the nights’ events: As part of the DGA’s 75th Anniversary,…

Honestly, Does Anyone Really Live Happily Ever After??
(Note: This was written last year but since this post originally focused briefly on elements from theTransformers series, I thought I’d revisit it because the latest installment still kind of helps prove my earlier point.) Here’s something I’ve wondered ever since I’ve started watching films. What happens to the characters after the credits?? It’s something most children ask their parents after they see (or hear) that all encompassing and cliche phrase at the end of a film…”And they lived Happily Ever After“. And since children are among the most inquisitive people on the planet, we should probably take a cue from them and not expect that just because the credits roll that…

Ohhh, Look…'Cars 2' Inspired Cinematic Vehicles
For those of you who get their kicks on Route 66 from seeing cars with giant eyeballs, have a gander at these Pixar inspired interpretations (read: no actual Pixar affiliation) of famous film automobiles. Hey, I more or less like Cars (well, mainly just Cars 2) and got a kick out of these, maybe you will too…Enjoy!
