Here’s a little something to help you finish up your day. The video below is a teaser trailer for the new comedy Neighborhood Watch starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade. It’s not great but it has enough humor to possibly get a chuckle out of you. Have a look… It does seem ho-hum even for a teaser, but I wouldn’t write it off yet as this is directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Sure you might think it has a sort of a Dodgeball meets Wild Hogs aging hipster vibe but the teaser is a bit misleading. FOr some clarification,…

Ohhh, Look…'Prometheus' Viral – Guy Pearce As Peter Weyland For TED Talk 2023
To promote Promotheus, Ridley Scott’s prequel/not-a-prequel to 1979’s Alien, comes this really neat introduction and apparent tie-in video (thanks to /Film for the heads up). What you’ll see below is the reveal of Guy Pearce’s character in the upcoming film who, in the words of Sir Ridley, is pretty much the only true link between these two films. The video shows Peter Weyland of the Weyland Corp. That’s right, half of the famous Weyland-Yutani corporate entity. Does the Nostromo ring any bells?? See, told you it was neat…but I’ll let the video do the rest of the explaining. Enjoy!! Check out more of the viral talk at the official TED2023 page. Also, if you…

The 84th Annual Academy Award Winners (Plus Tribute To The Snubbed Films of 2011)
The 84th Annual Academy Awards came to a close at the Kodak Theater (we’ll move past the fact they’re filing for Chapter 11) with some big wins from some expected but very deserving films and film makers. Hugo and The Artist went toe to toe and both walked away with 5 golden statues. The supporting/leading actor categories were really a tough call as the fields were all populated with masterful performances and talented individuals. But in the end Christopher Plummer, Octavia Spencer, Jean Dujardin and Meryl Streep took the wins for their fine, crowd pleasing and powerful roles. With such a wide range of some really quality films this year it really was…

G-S-T Review…Act of Valor
Before Act of Valor begins we are shown a short intro narrated by the directors (Mike McCoy, Scott Waugh) explaining why they chose to cast real active duty Navy SEALs. These elite soldiers have hard-learned skills, mannerisms, muscle memory and a language that can’t be handed over to an actor to exhibit with the same conviction. Like watching Michael Jordan dunking or Muhammad Ali in the ring the SEALs are the very best at what they do. Watching them in the movie it’s clear that McCoy/Waugh made the right choice. Act of Valor follows a team of soldiers sent who carry out a covert mission to recover a kidnapped woman. The person in question is…

G-S-T Review…Wanderlust
Wanderlust could well be the best thing David Wain has done since 2001’s Wet Hot American Summer. Maybe that’s not the best way to start a review of a well-liked director’s latest film; I feel like I’m stacking the deck, immediately, against Wanderlust, but at the same time the movie contains and emphasizes many of the same characteristics that made Wet Hot so great and have since established it as a modern comedy classic. The humor here is big, broad, and shamelessly silly, the characters are well-drawn, endlessly funny individuals, and the satire at the film’s core is well-realized. Where the two movies differ lies in the way Wain’s latest rambles, which is only appropriate to a…

“The CineMagic 8-Ball” – In Theaters 2/24/12
When so many movies are released each weekend and trailers often seem better than the movie itself, what should one do? In this precarious situation, we consult the The CineMagic 8-Ball (TM) to help us see through the nebulous marketing haze. Doing so just might save us all a disheartening trip to the cinema and spare us unnecessarily springing for $7 popcorn. See what the 8-Ball says about this week’s releases… ——————————————————————————————————————————————- GONE When her sister disappears, Jill is convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years ago has returned, and she sets out to once again face her abductor. Sounds intriguing but Seyfried seemed less than thrilled about it on the Ellen show…
