    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…Passion

Rachel McAdams has, most times, been the lovable girl next door and Noomi Rapace is, thanks to the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, riding high in Hollywood (really hope she is more than a foreign flavor of the year and becomes the next big thing). But the two of them look poised to really push their boundaries in the official trailer for Brian DePalma’s TIFF selected film Passion. How does it stack up to his other bold and artistic films like Sisters, Blow Out, Carrie and Scarface…guess we’ll find out but the trailer does look rather edgy in a 90’s kind of way. Enjoy! A remake of Love Crime, the French film by Alain Corneau, DePalma…

Kevin Costner Cast In Multiple Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan Film Adaptations

A few years ago we were extremely excited to report on what looked to be a solid couple of years for Kevin Costner. Having current success that’s starting to rival his status in the 80s/90s Kevin is teetering on the brink of a renaissance. Sure he’s an Oscar-winning actor and director, let’s look past his altruistic humaitaian efforts and the fact he’s got some chops as a country musician, but now beyond Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, he’s going to be quite the hot commodity in Hollywood once again. Kevin Costner was recently courted for and soon after signed on to a role in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Jack Ryan film for Paramount. Starring…

The Criterion Files: Days of Heaven

Days of Heaven: Directed by: Terrence Malick Written by: Terrence Malick Starring: Richard Gere, Abby Brooks, Sam Shepard, Linda Manz Cinematography by: Néstor Almendros, Haskell Wexler Music by: Ennio Morricone Released: September 13, 1973 Among the minute number of films Terrence Malick has directed over the course of his decade-spanning career, 1978’s Days of Heaven stands out as his most significant. Maybe it isn’t difficult to rise to the top of a five picture filmography (Malick’s sixth feature length release, To the Wonder, is allegedly due out later this year, and he has two more features tentatively planned to be shot back-to-back soon after), but the purpose of this exercise isn’t about competition;…

Ken Watanabe Cast In Japanese Remake of 'Unforgiven'

Japanese actor Ken Watanabe, of hit films like Inception and The Last Samurai, has just signed on to Warner Bros’ remake of Clint Eastwood‘s western Unforgiven. Likened to a film like Seven Samurai being adapted into The Magnificent Seven for Western audiences, this time the source material is going to be transplanted and set in Japan. Variety reports that this remake, headed up by WB’s Japanese division, will similarly take place in the 1880s but will find Watanabe as a “samurai with a violent past, who lives on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido with his aboriginal wife, but is brought out of retirement for one last job.” Directed by Lee Sang-Il,…

Tony Scott, Director of 'Top Gun' Dead At 68 – UPDATED

It’s never a pleasant thing to report on the death of anyone but today the film world weeps as the news of Tony Scott’s departure spreads across the web. Brother of Ridley, half of their Scott Free Production company and director of some of the most beloved and iconic films in the last few decades, Scott has reportedly taken his own life at 68. The maverick director took us to the Danger Zone, showed us what True Romance is and put us in the shoes of a Beverly Hills (well Detroit really) Cop in addition to helming multiple pulse-pounding films for Jerry Bruckheimer. What is perhaps a little more difficult to swallow is the reason behind…

FANTASTIC FEST Announces Second Wave of Film Programming Including 'Looper' and 'Sinister'

If you are at all familiar with the Austin cinema scene, the Alamo Draft House is a mecca to say the least. Home to a handful of film festivals (SXSW being one of the biggest) the more eclectic but equally high profile event is one Fantastic Fest; also known as the largest genre festival in the US. A melting pot of chills, spill, and kills, this Fest brings out the gore-hounds, midnight movie junkies and foreign film fans alike for 8 days of cinematic awesomeness. So while the fest can feature the likes of The Rza, Elijah Wood, and Nacho Vigalondo singing karaoke (yeah, that actually happened) it’s a pretty big draw for a pretty small Fest. This year…
