To use some boxing vernacular, when Ryan Coogler‘s Creed came out in 2015, it hit me a left hook (the film and the score). Earlier this week, we got our first look at the sequel to this new Rocky-based franchise. To be honest, this does comes as a bit of a surprise. Not just because Creed is a tough act to follow, but going for the emotional connection to previous Rocky films (read: Drago!), seems like the story is already backtracking when it should be moving forward. You can thank Sylvester Stallone who returns in front of the camera, and behind it with a writing credit. It will feel a little…

Sweet Trailer…’Killing Gunther’
These days, we don’t really post trailers. But once in a while, something drops that is too good to pass up. Case in point, the hilarious-looking preview for the upcoming action comedy, Killing Gunther, starring former Mr. Universe, The Governator himself, the one and only Ah-nuld. Much in the same way Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon was both a spoof and heartfelt homage to a beloved genre (highly recommend btw), this lets Arnie have a lot of fun doing what he does best: blowing things up and leaving a wake of debris, bodies and killer taglines. If you’re a fan of ’80s cinema (and since we’ll never…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…’Blade Runner 2049′
As a movie related website, we’ve been on the web since early 2009. But we never would have thought that we would ever report on a sequel to the 1982 classic, Blade Runner. Now while we’ve never been as taken by Sir Ridley Scott’s seminal masterpiece as the rest of the world has, over time, I’ve personally come to appreciate its importance and the popularity behind it. So while we are many months out from its release, behold, the first trailer, err, “announcement” for Blade Runner 2049. It’s mostly filled with sandy hues and a lot of text, but it still looks so very noir. Thirty years after the events…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…’Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’
We don’t post many trailers as of late, mostly because there are plenty of movie-themed outlets that showcase the latest and greatest hitting cinemas. But when something comes along that really resonates with us, we are obliged to post it. Case in point. Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Leon) is one of our all-time favorite filmmakers, and any time he has a film set to come out, to us, it’s like a new Star Wars is being released. So, in case you somehow missed this everywhere else on the web, enjoy the first teaser for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Rooted in the classic graphic novel series,…

Sweet Trailer…’Arrival’
Once in a while we get a sci-fi film, or any genre flick for that matter, that takes a worn idea and turns it on its side. Well, Denis Villeneuve (director Sicario, Prisoners) has literally turned sci-fi on its side (the ships anyway) in this awesome trailer for his upcoming feature. Wait, didn’t Ridley Scott already do that in the beginning of Prometheus? Eh, doesn’t matter. This looks awesome, so enjoy the new official movie trailer for Arrival. When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of…

Sweet Trailer…’A Monster Calls’
Ok, world. If you haven’t seen the trailer for A Monster Calls, stop what you’re doing right now and check this out! The video that follows is a stellar, stunning, and highly intriguing film starring Liam Neeson…don’t worry, he’s not rescuing his daughter in this one. Not even close. This film, from J.A. Bayona (The Impossible), looks so good you’ll wish this was playing in theaters starting tomorrow. But let’s clear this up right now. This is not The BFG, this is not Groot, it’s not even The Iron Giant, or even everyone’s favorite Ent, Treebeard. This highly original film (that takes place in the young boy’s head, obviously) features high caliber…

Sweet Trailer…’Kubo and the Two Strings’
We at GST are ever the fan of Laika‘s animated films. If you’ve seen ParaNorman and Boxtrolls you know they have such a distinct look – one as odd as it is captivating. In a world where CG has dominated so much of the entertainment world, it’s amazing to see the work that this company still does with practical tools, models, and effects. They share a lot in common with digital animators (this is stop-frame after all) but the tangible element, gritty and wonky though it may be, adds so much depth and character to each Laika feature. If you haven’t been keeping up with Kubo, enjoy this amazing looking trailer.…

Sweet Trailer…’Star Trek Beyond’
The Summer season is heating up, and while Captain America’s third installment is winning over film fans, a little known sci-fi property is warming up for its third at bat. That’s right, Justin Lin (of Fast & Furious fame) took the helm of the Enterprise (while J.J. Abrams was hard at work at an equally obscure science fiction property), and this looks great! Star Trek Into Darkness left many fans cold, so if this trailer is any indication of what Lin can bring to the table, then sign us up for Star Trek Beyond. Engage! “Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise,…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…’Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’
This week is a good week if you’re a Star Wars fan. The Force Awakens hit Blu-Ray on Tuesday (read our review here) and now we have the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Barring the fact the title is a little goofy, director Gareth Edwards looks to be bringing the goods in a major way. One important item to note is that this will be a prequel set before A New Hope, so that should make for an interesting premise…even if this is another Star Wars story involving the Death Star. Anyway, it looks terrific. Enjoy the first teaser trailer for Edwards’ film below! “Rogue One takes place before…

Sweet Trailer…’The Legend of Tarzan’
Remakes and sequels are all around us. Such is life. This week we saw the trailer for the 3rd remake of Ben-Hur (which doesn’t look one bit appealing), but Edgar Rice Burroughs‘ “Tarzan” is another property that gets a fresh coat of paint every couple decades. While this already looks like it’ll be better than Peter Jackson’s King Kong – another in a long line of remakes/retreads – we think it’s because the practical bits (thank you Mad Mad: Fury Road) and the digital ones (thank you Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will blend very well in this seemingly compelling story. Enjoy the trailer for The Legend of Tarzan. Tarzan,…
